Interestingly, Nissan trucks seem to be somewhat overlooked by the overlanding community, despite their reputation for reliability and build quality. During our Midsize Truck of the Year gear review, Scott Brady stated: “Nissan is one of those brands that is so honest and reliable that you rarely hear a cross word said about their vehicles.”…

Adventure 2CV in Mauritania :: Video
The Citrëon 2CV is an automotive icon and a working-class hero. The initial concept was called the TPV and was conceived way back in 1936 with lead-engineer Pierre-Jules Boulanger requesting “an umbrella with four wheels.” In other words, a car that was simple above all else in the hope it would mobilize France’s rural communities…
2018 Ford F-250 Lariat w/ XPCamper V2 :: Featured Classified
The New Year is synonymous with reflection and change. In 2024 I want to focus on owning and buying less but doing more. With this in mind, an overland vehicle is a great way to maximize experiences. Whether you plan to explore at the weekend, road trip for weeks at a time, live on the…
2006 Toyota Tundra 4×4 :: Classifieds
I’ve been somewhat obsessed with the first-generation Tundra ever since Stephan Edwards featured the 2005 Toyota Tundra built by Basil’s Garage. It’s an inspiring build and did a wonderful job of showcasing the potential of this relatively affordable platform (we recently featured a 2004 SR5 for just $9,000). In terms of overlanding credentials, I’d argue…

Dirt Lifestyle – Things Get Out of Control on this 600-mile Off-road Trail :: Video
In a recent Overland Journal podcast on Understanding the Overland Industry, our Chief Business Development Officer, Brian McVickers, stated that the overlanding boom is in its infancy. That statement may seem implausible considering the remarkable size of the community and industry at present. However, only recently have mainstream car manufacturers recognized the potential of the…

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Colorado; it’s not just one of the best-looking trucks in the segment but also one of the most capable. It’s a favorite with the Expedition Portal team and was awarded Mid-size Truck of the Year by Scott Brady, who stated, “Just a list of its features…
2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road XOverland X3 Meridian :: Featured Classified
The Toyota Tacoma remains the best-selling mid-size truck in North America and is undoubtedly the most popular truck on our forum. It’s not unusual to see listings for heavily modified examples built by enthusiasts, but far less common to find offerings from professional outfitters. This is not to discredit the former, but there is a…
2005 Porsche Cayenne V8 Twin-Turbo :: Classifieds
The Porsche Cayenne has always had something of a cult following within the overlanding community but in more recent years the popularity of these budget-friendly rigs has increased significantly. It’s no secret that most luxury 4WDs depreciate rapidly so picking up a vehicle that originally cost $90,000 for under $20,000 is nothing new. There are…
1999 Stewart & Stevenson M1079 LMTV Expedition Truck :: Classifieds
In the past, I didn’t understand the appeal of expedition trucks, which seemed overkill for most applications. However, after a decade of living on the road and meeting others travelling in these monster rigs, I’ve come to appreciate their benefits. First and foremost, it’s all about shifting your perspective and recognizing these are not simply…

However, what you don’t see every day is an overland-ready Tacoma built professionally and advertised for a fraction of the cost. Cue today’s low-mileage (47,000 miles) 2019…
Black Bear Pass in a Mitsubishi Delica L300 :: Video
Well, it’s official I bought another Mitsubishi Delica L300 and have subsequently been on a YouTube binge checking out where these vehicles take their owners and gleaming inspiration for my upcoming build. One of the first videos that popped up is not only one of the best Delica adventures I’ve seen but also one of…
2018 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 :: Classifieds
I recently listened to an episode of the Budget Overland podcast, and during their “voicemail” segment, a listener discussed their modified rig’s abysmal gas mileage and how it limited their travels in the hope it would educate others. As a European, I’ve grown up with fuel prices that would shock most Americans, and right now,…
2007 Lexus GX 470 :: Featured Classified
Generally speaking, overland vehicles are not synonymous with luxury. Instead, overlanders seek out platforms with a reputation for rugged dependability and capability that are serviceable in the field (the iconic 70 Series being a coveted choice). However, there are a select few vehicles that provide all of the above while also offering interior luxury and…

2015 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV “The White Rhino” :: Featured Classified
This is the first Tahoe we’ve featured in our classifieds section, and it has to be one of the most impressive overland builds we’ve ever showcased. There’s a fundamental difference between a rig with big tires and a lift and a vehicle where every nut and bolt from the ground up has been carefully selected…
2022 Ram 2500 Power Wagon :: Classifieds
Occasionally, a rig is posted to our forum that has my jaw agape, palms sweaty, and in today’s instance, I may have even let out an audible “ooooooo.” Sure, overland rigs should first and foremost be practical, but there’s something to be said for a build that you never get tired of staring at. I’d…
