2005 Mercedes G55 AMG :: Classifieds

g55 overland

The G-Wagon, like the Toyota Land Cruiser, is considered a pinnacle overland vehicle. The Geländewagon was originally developed in Austria by Steyr-Daimler-Puch to be a hardcore military off-roader. However, in more recent years, the platform, much like the new Land Rover Defender, has become something of a status symbol and has subsequently pandered to the luxury market. Prices have reflected this, with the latest G-Wagon starting at an eye-watering $143,000, which means very few make it on the trails. The irony is that the Mercedes remains one of the most capable 4WDs on the market and a fantastic platform for travel. Fortunately, used examples can be picked up for around the same price as a new Toyota 4Runner, with today’s 2005 G55 AMG listed for $45,000. That’s an impressive value considering this vehicle would’ve cost the best part of $100,000 new and showcases a luxurious interior, triple lockers, a supercharged V8, and an array of premium aftermarket upgrades.
