Land Rover Discovery

The Land Rover Discovery is a popular choice on our forum with recent offerings including this 1998, 1999, and 2004. It’s also a favorite with the Expedition Portal team and was subsequently chosen for Overland Journal’s Building a Pinnacle Vehicle. Despite cutting its teeth during the legendary Camel Trophy events, the Disco has always been somewhat overshadowed by the iconic Defender. This underappreciated platform carries forward many of the latter’s desirable all-terrain attributes but is better equipped inside and provides an altogether more refined driving experience. Cue today’s “barn find” low-mileage 2000 Land Rover Discovery II (50,000 miles), which has been fastidiously maintained and is the perfect blank canvas for a full overland build-out. If you’d like a better idea of how this vehicle can be outfitted for travel, check out inspiring rigs from Should I Get It Reviews, Xandera, and Disco 2 Overland. From the Seller:

This is close to a barn find, driven by the original 80-year-old owner and exclusively serviced at a Land Rover dealership. I’m the second owner at 50,000 miles. It has been maintained and kept in top form with a few improvements. The paint is the unfaded original, and the chassis is in near-new condition. The list of maintenance repairs or upgrades is long and over $25,000 worth of parts and labor. The engine was proactively serviced by the Land Rover dealership at around 30,000 miles. This included an upper engine refresh kit, including a head gasket, head bolts, a coolant flush, and a new radiator. Since then, the following work has been completed: windscreen and trim moldings and gasket, HD high flow water pump, HD battery, HD higher amp alternator, valve cover gaskets, all coolant hoses, engine sensors, wheel sensors, spark plugs, ignition coils and wires, and all fluids. All services completed as per factory maintenance intervals.”
