Haven Tent
Hammock camping is one of those polarizing things that people tend to love or hate, with one of the biggest complaints that you can’t sleep flat. Instead, your back is forced into a curved position, and sleeping on your side is impossible.
The innovative Haven Tent aims to improve the hammock sleeping experience. It offers the benefits of a tent with the lightweight footprint of a hammock. Haven’s special poles and tailored shape produce a much different experience, letting you sleep flat on your back, your side, or even your belly. It features integrated mosquito netting, a rain fly, and organizational pouches that are sewn into the interior walls for storing small items that you might need while zipped inside.

Pelican Rugged Lens Cover
One difficult aspect of owning multiple camera lenses is keeping track of all of the lens caps. Inevitably, they will all be different sizes, are only compatible with a single lens, and can easily be knocked off allowing dust and moisture to reach your expensive glass. However, the Pelican Rugged Lens Cover is a different breed of lens cap that was designed to solve these shortcomings.
Made from durable and stretchy silicone, the Rugged Lens Cover fits lenses with front elements ranging from 67 to 120 millimeters in diameter. For most photographers, that range covers every lens in the kit while being swappable between every lens. Additionally, the vertical columns that make up these covers provide impact protection far beyond that of a conventional lens cap, extending down the sides of the lens body. While it wouldn’t be accurate to call these water or dust-proof, they do offer a higher level of protection from both thanks to the generous overlap of the silicone cap down the sides of the lens body.

Midland MXTARM1 Tough-wedge Radio Mount
Midland’s Micromobile line of radios has been receiving praise for its functionality and compact form-factor. But the prospect of permanently installing any radio in your truck can come with some trepidations. For instance, if your initial location for the radio’s mounting bracket wasn’t ideal, you’ll probably want to improve it. But moving your radio means you will likely have to drill additional holes in your dash, or elsewhere, leaving an unpleasant visual reminder of your DIY efforts.
Thanks to the Tough-Wedge radio mount, these concerns can be put aside. The Tough-Wedge is comprised of an inflatable bladder that is connected to an articulating arm. After wedging the bladder between your seat and center console, you inflate it, creating a snug and secure anchor to mount your radio to. It makes installing and removing a radio quick and easy. And if this style of mount doesn’t quite fit your needs, Midland has other options.

Optimus Gemini Two-burner Stove
Optimus is well-known for its tried and true camping stoves, and I have no doubt that their new two-burner Gemini will fit right in with the rest. But as you can see, this camping stove is anything but standard when it comes to design. In fact, the Gemini won a 2021 ISPO award as well as a 2021 Outdoor Retailer Innovation Award for its unique and unconventional appearence.
The Gemini can perform all of the cooking tasks that you’ve come to appreciate from conventional two-burner stoves with its dual adjustable burners. It can boil or simmer and its extendable legs double as supports to accommodate larger pots and pans. Perhaps the most innovative element of the Gemini is its space-saving design. When folded for transport, it takes up a fraction of the space that a conventional two-burner camp stove occupies, making it an excellent choice for those of us who have limited space for gear in our rigs.

Katadyn BeFree Gravity 6L Water Purifier
For years the Katadyn Hiker water filter was my go-to device for purifying H20 in the backcountry. But filter technology has come a long way and many manufacturers are switching to hollow-fiber systems that use squeeze bags or gravity instead of pumping. The logic is sound. Why go through the effort of pumping when you can let mother nature do the work for you?
Katadyn’s BeFree Gravity 6L utilizes their popular BeFree filter design with the addition of a six-liter water bag that can be hung on a tree limb or from a vehicle’s roof rack. Once you’ve filled and hung the bag, opening the valve results in 2-liter-per-minute filtering that removes bacteria, cysts, and sediment down to .1 microns in size. The included filter will clean up to 1000 liters of water depending on the amount of sediment and can be replaced once it has reached the end of its lifespan.

Suunto 9 Peak GPS Watch
For those of you who like having the latest tech close at hand, Suunto makes a range of GPS sports watches that can do everything from tracking daily workouts to analyzing heart rate and receiving text messages. If you read my recent review of the Suunto Baro 9, the features of their newest watch, the 9 Peak will be familiar. But the 9 Peak has some updates, primarily, its size. Suunto describes it as the thinnest, smallest, and toughest watch they’ve ever made.
The 9 Peak features a barometer, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, GPS navigation, blood oxygen sensing, over-the-air software updates, and is water-resistant to 100 meters.
