Wild Land Has Launched the Double Decker Wingman Camping System in the US

A new modular camping system from Wild Land, identified as the “Automatic Liftable Pickup Truck Mate – High Cap with Camping Deck” (model name: Wingman), is now available in the US for pickup-truck platforms. According to the manufacturer, the system features a double-layer, liftable structure with automatic operation and is engineered for straightforward installation on a wide range of pickup trucks.

The Wingman has one clear nemesis—aside from its hefty 551-pound dry weight—and that’s the wind. A strong gust or even a spirited breeze could probably test its mettle and the courage of its inhabitants (I am looking at you, Luisa). In its closed form, the unit measures 71.3 × 63.4 × 25 inches (length × width × height). When deployed, the first floor opens to 58.7 × 53.5 × 38.2 inches, and the second floor expands to 88.7 × 57.6 × 41.7 inches. It’s a bit like mounting a lookout tower on the back of your pickup—so buckle in the kids, secure the dog, and maybe check the wind forecast before setting up camp. Hey, perhaps the Wingman could double as a hunting hide!

The unit is explicitly designed for “all pickup truck platforms,” offering compatibility with popular models such as the Ford F-150, Ranger, Toyota Hilux, and others.  The installation method is described as non-invasive, meaning the conversion does not require major structural modifications to the base vehicle. It is intended to preserve the integrity and utility of the underlying truck.

At the heart of the system is a motorized scissor-lift mechanism (referred to as a “Double X” structure) that raises and lowers the roof and tent assembly. According to the product details, the mechanism is electrically powered and remote-controlled. The manufacturer indicates that the structure is rated to support up to 660 pounds of load.

The system’s upper structure includes a hard-shell roof tent with a large skylight measuring 30.7 × 26.8 inches and an integrated roof rack with a 66-pound load capacity. The unit also includes safety features such as a ladder, integrated safety locks, a one-touch power-off function, and radar sensors to detect obstructions during automatic deployment.

Wild Land highlights the unit’s dual-floor functionality: the lower level is designated for storage, while the upper level is intended for “camping adventures.” The two floors can be opened or folded independently, creating a third space intended for leisure, camping, hunting, fishing, or overland travel. The tent is suitable for two to three people; perhaps a lithe couple and a small child will fit comfortably.

Retailing at $10,000, the Wingman unit is not the most affordable on the market, but it is in a league of its own.
