(feral-os-o-phy) (noun): In a wild state, especially after escape from captivity or domestication. Belief or doctrine.
The Ozarks regularly appear on Expedition Portal and in Overland Journal for good reason. Overlanders frequent the forested mountains that stretch across five states, taking in springs, rushing waterfalls, lakes, caverns, and other karstic landforms. Add some off-pavement trails, primitive camp spots, and historic sites to the mix, and you’ll be in for a well-rounded adventure. Fortunately, the ladies hosting Feralosophy have removed the guesswork—all you have to do is sign up.
Presented by Lady Overlander Radio, Feralosophy is an intimate weekend camping experience near Jasper, Arkansas, in the Ozark Mountains. This ladies-only overland event offers a blend of outdoor activities, workshops, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals in a relaxing and fun environment.
Misti Tokarsky and Arla Cress of Lady Overlander Radio will host the event, bringing their combined experience to the table. Tokarsky is a full-time overlander who travels with her family, while Cress hits the trails in her 2018 Jeep Wrangler JKU with her husband and daughter.
Located near the 135-mile Buffalo National River, the retreat includes primitive camping, all meals, and a solid lineup of activities, including basic wilderness survival training and an off-road recovery workshop by Switchback Outdoor Safety, a gravel route ride through historic Newton County, Arkansas, and Friday and Saturday morning yoga.
The itinerary also features a visit to the Parker-Hickman farmstead, a pioneer settlement showcasing the evolution and farming in the Ozarks over the past 130 years. Those keen for more classes may join those offered by the US Forest Service, Arkansas Game and Fish, and Lady Overlander Radio. Live music, giveaways, and swag bags round out the weekend.
Note registration for the event is limited to 25 spots.
