The Land Rover Defender is widely considered a pinnacle overland vehicle and is a popular choice for round-the-world adventures. We’ve featured no shortage of drool-worthy builds with recent adventure-ready examples such as this $113,000 2012 TD4 with a Globe Camper, an $80,000 2007 TD4 with Alu-Cab pop top, and a $70,000 1993 Hardtop. Today’s 1992 Land Rover Defender 110 (191,000 miles) showcases an Alu-Cab Icarus pop-top roof and tastefully outfitted interior and represents great value at $55,000 OBO. From the Seller:
“Selling my beloved 1992 Defender Icarus camper to make room for something with more passenger space. Purchased in October of 2021 from Sonoran Rovers, who did the build. They had the truck refurbished in the UK before import. The camper install/build and galvanized chassis install was done in-house by them in Tucson.”

The Defender is fitted with a 2.5-liter turbo-diesel that, in stock form, produces 107 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque (today’s example has been tuned by Roadside Werx in Denver). The 200Tdi is not the most powerful but is long-lived and economical, with the owner of today’s build averaging 29-30 mpg. A relatively frugal motor is matched with legendary capability thanks to 4WD, a 2-speed transfer case, a locking center differential, armor, and more. Inside, the Land Rover is intentionally utilitarian but does incorporate the following driver comforts:
- Locking center console
- Power steering
- Rear camera wired to the rearview mirror
- Cupholders
Distinguishing Features
- Alu-Cab Icarus pop top
- Optima yellow-top batteries with Xplor 180-watt solar panel
- Alu-Cab shadow awning
- ARB air compressor
- Winch bumper
- Rock sliders
- Cooper Discoverer M/T tires
