Hyperlight Mountain Gear Camera Pod
Hyperlight Mountain Gear, makers of über-lightweight sewn outdoor goods, have just dropped their new Camera Pod, and if it’s built like their other products, I have no doubt that it will survive many miles on the trail. Hyperlight is one of the pioneering companies responsible for popularizing Dyneema (aka Cubin fiber), an incredibly strong yet lightweight material that is made by extruding a UV-resistant polyethylene gel through a spinneret.
They claim that their Camera Pod is the “worlds lightest and most durable camera case”. The regular size is designed to fit cameras like Sony’s a6000 series and weighs just 77 grams yet provides weather protection as well as padding. The large size can accommodate larger mirrorless cameras like Sony’s A7 and weighs 106 grams. Both sizes of the Camera Pod can be mounted to your backpack in a variety of orientations via four sewn loops.

Expedition / Units: PROJECT 25L-46-012-031 Dry Bag
While we don’t often feature products that are in the process of being crowd-funded, this one was too cool to pass up. The creator of this dry bag, Matteo, is no stranger to the world of overland travel. He and two friends drove a Fiat Panda from Europe to Mongolia.
The Expedition/Units PROJECT 25L-46-012-031 Dry Bag is a versatile backpack-style roll-top waterproof bag that is designed to protect whatever you can fit inside from moisture. It is constructed from 840-denier TPU-laminated ballistic nylon for a high level of durability and abrasion-resistance. It is currently 99% funded with 13 days to go. Our fingers are crossed that we see this project come to fruition.

Looking for a unique cap to keep the sun out of your eyes on the trail? Then look no further than Recaps and their custom hat builder program. This female-owned Washington-based business has been making unique lids for 10 years, pairing art and functionality. Their hats are offered in multiple styles including the popular trucker and 5-panel styles. When creating your custom cap on their online hat builder, you begin with a colorful but blank cap and choose a woodblock-printed embellishment to have sewn onto the front. I counted 33 options for graphics including many outdoors-themed motifs. Because the available colors are always changing and each print is made by hand, no two hats are the same.
