The Best of the Late Summer Moto Rallies

There’s still time to get in on late summer motorcycle rallies and rides and soak up the remnants of summer sun before the leaves turn golden and the weather cold, and the west has no shortage of great moto events to choose from.

Four Corners Motorcycle Rally

The Four Corners Motorcycle Rally is scheduled for September 2-4 in Durango, Colorado, and will offer some of the most fun and challenging rides in the west with dirt racing and stunt shows. Arrive at the event by riding the Million Dollar Highway or head north through the Arizona desert or on the winding roads of Utah, or through the desert mesas and mountains of New Mexico. Any route is a can’t-lose ride.

Attendees at this year’s Four Corners Rally can ride or watch the Slippin’ Sideways Flat Track races, ride up a ski slope for the Wheelie Pig Hill Climb Challenge, or join group rides and poker runs. Or, check out the eye-candy at the V-twin Performance Visionary Bike Show and demo a number of new motorcycles. Tent and RV camping is available.

38th Bavarian Mountain Weekend Rally

If you’re going to pre-register for this September 9-11 event, get on online here before August 30. Like the Four Corners Rally, getting to Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort in Vadito, New Mexico, offers winding roads one splendid view after another, and once there, the free camping and camaraderie can’t be beaten. The rally is situated about 30 minutes from Taos, New Mexico, so plan a stop in this unusual mountain town. Additional lodging, restaurants, and stores with ample camping supplies abound here.

Sponsored by the Land of Enchantment BMW Riders group, the rally brings together BMW owners for meals, music, and moto talk. Attend the Green Chili Stew Dinner on Saturday night, win door prizes, or donate to fire disaster relief in New Mexico.

Ride Riudoso Week

The first-ever Ride Ruidoso Week, scheduled for September 12-18 in this southern New Mexico village not far from the home of Smokey the Bear, is also a benefit to replenish community resources impacted by the McBride Fire and other natural disasters. Proceeds from admission also benefit Toys for Tots and the Boys & Girls Club. Events at this rally are a bit more street-worthy, with group rides, a classic car show, FMX and BMX stunt riding, and the Bataan Memorial Slow Race in which the last rider that crosses the finish line wins. There is also no shortage of concerts, food, and camaraderie at this event.

The rally coincides with Riudoso’s Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally, scheduled for September 15-18. Established in 1969, the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally has welcomed riders to this southern New Mexico mountain town for 52 years with gorgeous winding mountain roads and no shortage of beautiful scenery.
