Video of the Week :: Return to Namibia

NamibRand Nature Reserve, Namibia

If you listened to the Overland Journal Podcast recently or saw Joe Fleming’s stunning photo essay from his moto adventure in Southern Africa just a few weeks ago, you probably have a little Africa travel itch you need to scratch. I know I do.

It’s almost impossible to take a bad photograph in Namibia, and it’s one of the few places on earth where images, both moving and still, can capture some of the grandeur and otherworldly presence of the landscape. Yes, the dunes really are that big. Yes, the beaches do stretch onward into infinity. Yes, those are elephants living in the middle of a desert. Yes, there are that many stars, and it’s that quiet.

As I discussed with my colleagues Graeme Bell and Scott Brady on the podcast, Namibia is one of the easiest yet most exotic places you can travel overland, whether on two wheels or four. It’s safe and affordable, the infrastructure is excellent, the people are exceptionally friendly, and you can find solitude around every corner. It’s a country where you feel like you’re on a real adventure, and everything seems like you’re the first to discover it.

Ride along with Joe Fleming again in this inspirational short, and then get a more in-depth look at Namibia through the eyes of Overlanding Escape with the first of their incredible three-part journey to the remote northern reaches of the country.
