The TAV Ford F350 Super Duty is Full-Size Perfection

Walt Wagner and his Tactical Application Vehicles (TAV) team recently unveiled a 2022 Ford F350 Super Duty specifically designed to cater to the adventurous spirit of a family-oriented client; this is the kind of vehicle that will likely eclipse the view as you sit with your loved ones around a campfire at the end of the trail.

TAV specializes in creating custom expedition vehicles for the truck, UTV, and adventure motorcycle markets. They focus on building vehicles tailored to the client’s needs, considering hobbies, driving style, number of occupants, and trip duration. The primary build limitation with this Ford was that the vehicle must fit into an 8-foot garage, a stipulation that significantly influenced the choice of the camper. TAV opted for the Skinny Guy Campers 6.5-foot model, known for its compactness and ease of setup. This model, which aligns with the cab height when closed, can also be detached when not in use.

The Skinny Guy Camper was chosen in the Kit ‘N Kaboodle trim; the camper features a RedArc Battery Manager 30 power management system, a propane gas system for energy efficiency, and includes a Truma Combi unit that serves both as a heater and water heater, alongside a freshwater system complete with plumbing, a water pump, and a Bullfinch shower point. Storage and accessibility are enhanced by an underbelly module housing freshwater tanks and a MOLLE rack on the rear wall for added utility. Convenience features include an LP gas detector, an exterior solar panel, and a 1000-watt inverter. The vehicle also boasts a portable 12-volt refrigerator, a kitchen module with a cooktop and sink, a logo marine mat for aesthetics, and heated tank pads to prevent freezing. The focus on family camping necessitated a build that would ensure comfort and convenience for all; the Prima Loo toilet option is essential for the client, who has several young daughters. TAV transformed the truck’s interior by installing a rear bench seat to accommodate the family further, ensuring each member had a dedicated seat belt.

The camper is mounted on a Bowen Customs Camper Bed, explicitly designed for slide-in campers, featuring a high departure angle, retention of factory bed height, and increased storage, crucial for packing on family trips. The camper bed features fully sealed upper boxes for dry and secure storage, all-aluminum construction, and an Oasis air compressor, facilitating quick tire inflation or deflation as needed.

A Front Runner Slimline roof rack, mostly unoccupied, carries some essential gear like the WeBoost cell phone signal booster, Maxtrax, and a Rugged Radios antenna. Lighting is a crucial aspect of the build, with Baja Designs S2 lights mounted on either side of the roof rack for campsite illumination and seven Baja Designs LP4 lights across the front of the rack that serve as both vehicle markers and terrain lighting, enhancing visibility for both the driver and others on the road. Additionally, four LP9 lights, two amber and two white, are mounted on the front, providing ample lighting for any off-road driving situation.

The truck’s front is equipped with an ADD Stealth Fighter bumper, incorporating a ComeUp 12.5 Slim winch, ensuring readiness for any recovery scenario. The build also features carefully selected suspension, wheels, and tires. A Carli E-Venture Suspension system was installed, allowing the client to adjust the specifications as needed. This is complemented by Deaver add-a-pack leaf springs and a Firestone floating rear airbag kit in the rear, maintaining the factory spring rate while offering the flexibility of airbag assistance. The truck rides on 17-inch Method Bead Grip wheels and 37-inch Toyo MT Tires, ensuring it is well-equipped to tackle any terrain.

This custom 2022 Ford F350 Super Duty stands as a testament to TAV’s commitment to delivering vehicles that merge functionality with adventure, and we think it looks awesome.
