Established in 1967, Sierra Trek has become an annual destination for families across the West, and this year they are pulling out all the stops by adding four new Platinum trips. The event takes place in the Sierra Nevada north of Truckee, California, with a base camp placed on the cornerstones of the 1862 mining town of Summit City. There you will find country-style meals from the chuckwagon, live music, a monster raffle, and libation at the Summit City Saloon or Saturday whiskey tasting venue. Traditionally a four-day event, this year participants can crank up the experience with extra days on a Platinum Trip.
The first, called Overland Trek to Trek, is led by Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Del Albright. Del will take guests into the northern reaches of California’s historic Gold Country, sharing the history and lore of a region that shaped America’s quest for Manifest Destiny. Evenings will be spent sharing yarns around the campfire and enjoying tunes from Del’s six-string and a round of cowboy poetry.

For those that have dreamed of running the Rubicon and Fordyce Trails, Rubidyce Trek to Trek will knock both off the bucket list in one shot. Beginning in Georgetown, this small group of self-described rockhounds will traverse the world-famous “Con,” spending the night in Rubicon Springs. The following morning, they will make their way up Cadillac Hill to Lake Tahoe before heading to Cisco Grove for an exciting run up the Fordyce Trail.
The Rocklander Trek to Trek, sponsored by Metalcloak, will thread a path up the spine of the Sierra Nevada. Tying together several of California’s most iconic OHV routes, this adventure is designed for participants that are comfortable being full self-reliant for several days in the backcountry. Working their way north, guest can expect to see some of the lesser-known gems of the Sierra while enjoying the camaraderie of like-minded adventurers on a true overland trek.
Additional new trips include a tribute to the late Marlin Czajkowski (of Marlin Crawler fame) on the Outer Limits Trail led by Big Mike. For the shutterbugs amongst us, the Overlanding Scenic Run will nurture the creative soul. Guided by Cheryl Anderson (and her assistant, Hall of Fame inductee Chris Collard), participants will work their way around the Meadow Lake area, stopping for photo sessions below snow-capped peaks and alpine lakes. After dinner in main camp, they’ll head back out, tripods in-hand, to find Polaris and capture star trails.
