Lexus LX600, Overland Expo’s Ultimate Overland Vehicle 2023

Overland Expo debuted the Ultimate Overland Vehicle 2023 at the Overland Expo West event along with the Ultimate Overland Motorcycle 2023 Triumph Tiger. The vehicle is based on the popular 2022 LX600 model and incorporates cutting-edge components from 25 exhibitors, establishing it as the pinnacle of overland vehicles for those who like a lot of smoothness with their rough.

The Ultimate Overland Vehicle is the result of extensive modifications made by Overland Expo and is accompanied by an Off Grid Trailer, enhancing its capabilities and versatility for extended adventures in the wilderness.

In a remarkable display of philanthropy, the LX600 and Off Grid Trailer and the Triumph Tiger will be auctioned off separately on Bring a Trailer, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Overland Expo Foundation charity. This generous gesture underscores Overland Expo’s commitment to supporting the community and giving back to a cause that aligns with its mission.

Senior Vice President of Marketing at Emerald Consumer Events Lindsay Hubley says,

“The LX nameplate has long been synonymous with the American overlanding market. With the introduction of the all-new LX600, we recognized the opportunity to collaborate with our exhibitors to develop world-class overlanding products for the top-of-the-line full-size 4×4 SUV platform in the U.S. Furthermore, the inclusion of an Off Grid Trailer was essential to complete the Ultimate Overland Vehicle. We are proud to present a vehicle and trailer combination that truly lives up to its ‘ultimate’ designation.”

The build introduces an extensive and desirable range of unique, off-the-shelf components designed explicitly for the LX600 platform. Industry-leading brands such as CBI Offroad, Goose Gear, MagnaFlow, Prinsu, Radflo, and Total Chaos collaborated with Overland Expo to develop these unique features exclusively for this build. The Official Build Partner, Mule Expedition Outfitters, dedicated countless hours to bringing the vehicle vision to life while transforming the Lexus in all the best ways (that grill!).

Lexus LX600

The 2022 Lexus LX600 was chosen for its GA-F body-on-frame platform, powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, luxurious cabin, and comprehensive array of standard safety and off-road features. It’s an ideal size for long-distance overland adventures, with a slightly wider profile than a midsize pickup, a well-balanced 112-inch wheelbase, and an impressive 64 cubic feet of cargo space, make it maneuverable on narrow trails while offering ample storage capacity.

Along for the ride, and bringing comfort and gear carrying capacity with it, is the Off Grid Trailers’ Pando 2.0, boasting 8 inches of wheel travel, 24 inches of ground clearance, and a 360-degree articulating hitch. The trailer incorporates features such as queen-size sleeping quarters; air-conditioning; a 23Zero Shower Enclosure; hot water on-demand system; 1,000-pound capacity integrated roof rack; and a rear galley kitchen equipped with a dual-burner cooktop, a hot- and cold-water sink, and up to 33 gallons of onboard potable fresh water. Additionally, the trailer features a Pi Duale Pizza Oven from Solo Stove in its slide-out storage compartment, coz who doesn’t love pizza?

The front fascia of the LX600 has been enhanced by the addition of the ARB Summit MKII front bumper, which houses the new Solo Series 12.5 winch from Comeup. The Summit MKII bumper also supports Midland Radio’s innovative Bull Bar Antenna, which enhances the performance of the mounted Midland MXT-575 GMRS radio within the cabin. A pair of ARB’s state-of-the-art Intensity IQ Lights are illuminating the trail ahead.

The LX600 features camp and scene lighting with Vision X’s Overland Area Lights placed strategically along the sides. Atop the vehicle sits the first-ever Prinsu roof rack explicitly designed for the LX600. It securely holds the Armadillo A2 rooftop tent and the Peregrine 270 awning, both provided by 23Zero.

Total Chaos and Radflo suspension components have significantly improved the LX600’s suspension and off-road capabilities. Total Chaos developed upper and lower control arms and rear links for the LX600 (read here about the Total Chaos 2022+ bolt-on suspension upgrade for the Toyota Tundra). At the same time, Radflo’s 2.5-diameter Remote Reservoir Shocks and Coilovers replaced the front and rear shocks and struts. As a result, the vehicle’s suspension is more than 2.5 inches taller than stock, with enhanced travel capabilities.

The heightened suspension allowed for the installation of 33/12.5R17 Kenda Klever R/T tires, which provide exceptional off-road performance. These tires are mounted on 17-inch Satin Black Compression Wheels from Icon Dynamics. Navigating off-road trails is made easier with the onX Offroad Trail Maps App, seamlessly integrated through Apple CarPlay on the LX600’s 12.3-inch touchscreen.

Lexus LX600

The rear of the LX600 boasts an all-new dual swing-out rear bumper from CBI Offroad, capable of carrying the vehicle’s full-size spare wheel and tire on one arm, while the other arm accommodates a 5-gallon jerry can and a set of traction boards. Opening the swing-out bumper and lifting the rear hatch reveals Goose Gear’s new Ultimate Chef Package for the LX600, featuring a CFX3 45 fridge from Dometic.

Meals prepared using the Ultimate Chef Package can be enjoyed on the Helinox Tactical Tables and Chairs. Two of Dometic’s Go Hydration Water Jug and Water Faucet units are also included for additional water storage.

The Ultimate Chef Package houses a custom box created by Mule Expedition Outfitters, which contains the rig’s auxiliary power management system, the Smart BMS CL 12/100 from Victron Energy. The vehicle’s 3.5-liter V6 engine is powered by an Optima Batteries Yellowtop DH7 battery mounted under the hood. The MagnaFlow Overland Series Cat-Back Performance Exhaust System, specifically designed for the LX600, unleashes the deep rumble of the twin-turbo engine.

To ensure the vehicle is fully equipped for any situation, the Lexus comes with the Off-Road Tool Bag with Tool Roll from Boxo USA as the official tool kit. Forrest Tool’s Max Tool Kit is also available for off-road recovery, including a shovel. In case of emergencies, the vehicle is equipped with the Self-Reliance Medical OTK 1450 First-Aid Kit.

If you missed the opportunity to see the Lexus LX600 in the flesh, the vehicle will make appearances at three upcoming Overland Expo events as well as the inaugural Outdoor Adventure X show.
