Lexus GX470 and GX460 Icon Suspension :: News

Overland News

There is no question that the Lexus GX460 and GX470 have become wildly popular for overlanding, reflecting their near-ideal combination of capability, reliability, payload, and comfort. This breadth of capability makes them as suitable for daily driver duties as it does for driving around the world. As a result, the aftermarket has responded with high-quality components and accessories to better support remote overland travel.

Icon Vehicle Dynamics was one of the leaders in suspension design for overlanding, engineering robust systems that improve limit handling, articulation, ground clearance, and payload. The rear of the system replaces the factory airbags, while the front converts the struts to adjustable coilovers. This bolt-on system improves wheel travel by 25 percent and includes larger shocks for improved fluid volume and heat management, all secured with ICON’s lifetime guarantee. iconvehicledynamics.com

Here are the details from the press release.

The Lexus GX460 and GX470 are luxurious vehicles packed with “all the bells and whistles,” but underneath all of the sophistication, they are still very capable vehicles that see heavy use both on- and off-road. While the GX has exceptional ride characteristics in stock form, it is clear that the suspension is in need of a serious upgrade if the vehicle is to serve any measurable amount of time in the dirt. ICON Vehicle Dynamics has addressed this need for a comprehensive suspension solution and is proud to introduce several suspension systems that drastically increase the overall performance and ride quality of the 2003-2009 GX470 and 2010-UP GX460.

Holistic Engineering – the ICON Difference
When developing suspension components for a new vehicle, ICON takes a different approach than many others. Rather than focusing on one particular part, ICON engineers look at the vehicle as a whole, identify inherent strengths and weaknesses, and set a target for performance. With a focus on maximizing wheel travel and improving ride quality, ICON will develop components that address (and often times replace) OE limiting factors. This “holistic engineering” philosophy often results in the development of several parts designed to work together as a system to provide balanced on- and off-road performance. Because ICON is designing and manufacturing all of the components necessary to improve the performance of a vehicle from front to back, end-users can rest easy knowing they are dealing with ONE manufacturer, ONE standard of quality, and ONE awesome warranty to back it all up.

After hours of in-house R&D and thousands of miles of real-world testing, a collection of ICON components including coilovers, rear shocks, upper control arms, rear coil conversion kits, rear link arms, and track bars were organized into several staged suspension systems that each delivers a unique level of performance to the GX. A remarkable level of performance is established with ICON’s entry-level system and only improves as the stages increase, introducing more technology and more robust components. Additional shock technology like remote reservoirs, ICON’s CDC Valve, and 2-way bypass shocks are provided to drastically increase overall damping ability and allow for end-user ride adjustability. ICON offers two unique upper control arm and rear link arm options (tubular steel and billet aluminum) throughout its range of systems to allow for additional wheel travel, increased strength, adjustability, and improved suspension geometry for more predictable handling.

These suspension systems drastically improve the GX’s ride quality, reduce body roll, and provide a lift height range of 0-3.5 inches to allow for the fitment of larger, more aggressive wheel and tire combinations. By addressing the OE “limiting factors” with ICON components, our engineers were able to completely redefine the potential of the GX with wheel travel gains of over 25 percent! A bolt-on design also makes for simple and straightforward installation without the need for any custom fabrication or major modifications.

ICON Vehicle Dynamics products are proudly designed, manufactured, and assembled in Riverside, California, by a team of passionate off-road enthusiasts. With a reputation for quality, performance, and service it’s clear that ICON Vehicle Dynamics is the top choice for performance suspension systems and shock absorbers for enthusiasts that demand the highest levels of performance, ruggedness, and durability out of their suspension systems.
