1986 Volkswagen Syncro Westfalia :: Classifieds

Vanagon Syncro

The Vanagon Syncro is something of a rarity, with only a small selection posted to our forum, including this 1986, a 1987, and a 1989. I’ve owned and lived in a Syncro for more than a decade, and while they have their quirks, I retain that it’s a fantastic vehicle for travel. Alongside the iconic Volkswagen T2 the Vanagon is undoubtedly the vanlife pinup, while the 4WD Syncro model is favored among overlanders. The boxy dimensions provide ample interior living space within a modest exterior footprint, which makes it a joy to live inside and easy to drive in town and on narrow trails. Further still, it’s the aftermarket darling with a huge catalog of parts, accessories, and services available from the likes of GoWesty, Van Café, Simpler Ways, and Venture Libre. If you’d like a better idea of how this platform can be upfitted for exploration then check out inspiring builds from Rad Rides, Just Buggin VW, and Roaming with Rohmer. Alternatively, check out my features on expedition Syncros built by Alika Vaquer and Guanabana Overland. Cue today’s 1986 Vanagon Syncro Westfalia, which boasts over $100,000 of work and includes a desirable Boxeer engine conversion.

From the Seller:

This is my beloved 86 Syncro with tons of modifications. Please message if anyone is interested. The paint is 90% original under the wrap with very little rust, some clear coat failure, and some filler in the bottom corner of the windows in the normal spots, but I wanted to keep it original and not mess with it.
