Delica L300

In October 2023, I returned to the UK and spent five months rebuilding my Vanagon Syncro into my dream rolling home. During that time, I decided I’d need a second budget-friendly vehicle while my primary vehicle was off the road. I found a bargain Mitsubishi Delica L300 pop top (I had owned one previously and loved it) that was rough around the edges but mechanically sound. Fast forward to the weekend of leaving for a work commitment in the Lofoten Islands, Norway, and engine failure struck the Syncro. I had no choice but to delay my departure and spent a week frantically outfitting the little Delica for the 2,000-mile journey. I have always preached about the legendary build quality and reliability of ’90s Japanese vehicles and now it was time to test the theory. The Mitsubishi took the journey in stride and delivered me and my life’s belongings (including a 5-meter sea kayak) to the Arctic Circle in comfort and style. Built on a modified Mitsubishi Pajero chassis, this is one of the few vans that’s underpinned by a legitimate 4WD platform and is subsequently very capable when the tarmac ends. In addition, it’s the perfect size for travel with just enough interior space for a camper interior but small enough to drive around town and fit in a shipping container. It’s something of a rarity on the forum with just a few previous listings, including this 1991 Reimo pop top, a 1992, and a 1993 Chamonix. Today’s 1994 Mitsubishi Delica L300 (120,000 miles) has recently enjoyed a mechanical refresh and showcases tasteful upgrades.
