Land Rover Discovery 1

The Land Rover Discovery of any iteration is a great choice for travel, with recent overland-equipped offerings including this 1998, 2001, and 2008. With its legendary 4WD capability and luxurious interior, it’s a worthy alternative to the prohibitively expensive Defender. Sure, it’s not without its technical gremlins, but thanks to a huge aftermarket catalog and global community support, these issues are soon rectified. Personally, I love the first generation as it carried forward many of the Defender’s rugged attributes, field serviceability, and charismatic/practical boxy styling, while introducing a luxurious interior and altogether more refined driving experience. Consequently, there’s no shortage of inspiring builds online from the likes of Overland N Explore, Panda Outdoors, and Overland NZ. Cue today’s 1999 Land Rover Discovery I (143,000 miles), which boasts a plethora of premium upgrades and is advertised at a bargain $10,800.

Land Rover Discovery 1From the Seller:

I bought this Discovery from community member Ben Little in 2013 after he added all sorts of goodies. Ben’s original build and for-sale descriptions included a lot of details about this vehicle and his many customizations to it. His postings can be found at the following two Expo links: Build Thread and Sale Thread. Ben definitely prepared this vehicle for camping and trail adventures with custom bumpers, frame sliders, diff guards, rear storage space, and a roof rack. He added 3 inches of lift and the ability to accommodate larger tires, so there’s an amazing amount of ground clearance for off-road travel and maneuvering.”
