The F-150 is a motoring icon and a firm favorite for overlanding, with recent examples including this 2010 F-150 STX, 2018 w/ Harker EXO, and 2023 FX4 w/ AT Overland Equipment Summit. It’s a vehicle that can seemingly do it all with desirable commercial attributes, powerful and relatively frugal motors, well-appointed interiors, and international access to both OEM and aftermarket parts and services. It’s for these reasons and more that it has remained the best-selling truck in the US for almost half a century and featured in Overland Journal’s Full Size Truck of the Year. Cue today’s 2015 Ford F-150 XLT (90,000 miles) showcasing a plethora of aftermarket upgrades and topped with a Go Fast Campers XL. At $28,500, this represents impressive value for a full-size overlanding package and would be well suited to adventures both at home and abroad. From the Seller:
“This truck has lived a life of adventure on the narrow trails and roads of the Pacific Northwest and the Desert Southwest. As such, the paint has a fair amount of pin-striping. On the bright side, you don’t have to worry about adding your own! Other than that, there is no damage, and everything works as it should. There is a basic DIY build-out in the bed of the truck. I’m no carpenter, so it’s not pretty, but it’s functional and provides some seating and storage organization. I’m happy to leave it in if you want it or take it out if you don’t.”
2015 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab with 6.5-foot bed
The F-150 is powered by a 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine that produces 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque and returns 19/24 mpg (city/highway). A powerful yet relatively frugal motor makes for surprisingly brisk on-road performance with a sub-6-second sprint to 60 mph. However, it’s when the tarmac ends that this vehicle excels courtesy of 4WD, high and low range, a rear locking differential, and a lifted and uprated suspension. These rugged credentials are balanced with a well-equipped interior with driver comforts that include:
- Tow package
- Air-conditioning
- Cruise control
- Infotainment system with navigation
- Center console with cupholders
Distinguishing Features
- Bilstein 5100 front shocks and Airlift Ride Control rear airbags
- Goodyear Wrangler Ultra terrain A/T tires
- Bluetti 1,500-watt-hour power station with Renogy 100-watt solar panels (2) and Starlink mount
- Go Fast Camper XL with front and rear windows, Turbo Cubby cabinet system, Overland Soft Goods fitted flannel sheets, and VRNCLR top shelf organizer
- Frontrunner 18-gallon water tank
- Underland Offroad front MOLLE panel
- Console Vault vehicle safe
