Cake Drops the Perfect Scooter for Your Overland Camper

Cake impressed the outdoor world with the launch of their first electric motorcycle, a dirt bike with an elegant and austere design. Now, they address the opposite end of the spectrum with a utility-minded model designed to be lightweight, multi-functional, and easy to ride.

The Makka electric moped touts the ability to haul surfboards, mount an Alubox to the rear rack, or even take a passenger. The passenger function is the most intriguing, as this is the first sub-135 pound e-bike with the ability to take two travelers. This is a perfect solution for the camper or trailer traveler that wants to set up a base camp and explore smaller villages (most colonial villages in the Americas are not suited to campers and trailers). The other advantage would be as a trail scout, checking shelf roads or possible dead ends that can create complications for large campers or when towing trailers.

Initial specifications are limited, but the configurability looks promising. The Flex model is the clear choice as well, with much faster travel speeds and only a six-mile hit to range. However, the range is a consideration for both models, as neither have pedal assist. At only 31 miles, I can see range anxiety being a real issue when returning back to camp from Guanajuato with a basket filled with fresh limes, tacos, and tequila.
