One of the stars of the recent Overland Expo West held in Flagstaff, Arizona, was the Truckhouse BCR built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). The stylish brute has also been setting the internet on fire, earning impressive social media interaction, especially on Instagram. This innovative 4×4 camper combines advanced design, high performance, and luxury, which Truckhouse claims sets a new standard in the expedition vehicle market.
The BCR is built on the rugged AEV Prospector XL RAM 3500 chassis, the platform chosen for its proven track record in handling rough terrains and its robust build quality. The collaboration between TruckHouse and AEV ensures that the BCR should not only excel in performance but also boast a refined design that meets the high standards of both companies. AEV’s enhancements include 40-inch tires, a stamped steel front bumper, and a 3-inch dual sport suspension.
At the heart of the BCR is its aerospace-grade carbon fiber monocoque shell. This single-piece structure is crafted using a vacuum infusion process, which ensures strength and lightweight properties. The carbon fiber house is mounted to the truck chassis via a unique torsion-free mounting system, providing a seamless and durable connection. The BCR’s design also incorporates the patent-pending HiPR Foils, which improve aerodynamics by reducing high pressure in front of the cabover. This innovative feature enhances drivability and fuel economy, making the BCR a more efficient vehicle for long expeditions (bank on roughly 15 mpg, depending on how heavy your foot is).
Inside, the BCR offers a luxurious and spacious living environment. The open floor plan features a cab over king bed, a rear dinette that converts into a full bed, and an impressive six foot and six inches interior standing height. The interior is designed with modern conveniences and high-end finishes, including molded single-piece cabinetry, a touch screen and smartphone-controlled home management system, and integrated hydronic heating. The BCR also includes frameless safari-style dual-pane windows, an oversized skylight, and dimmable LED lighting, creating a comfortable and well-lit living space.
The galley is equipped with an induction cooktop, convection oven/microwave, marine-grade drawer fridge, and freezer, and a filtered drinking water tap. The wet bath features a shower and toilet, with options for cassette, composting, or dry flush systems. Additional amenities include a 48 volt lithium battery bank, a 48 volt air conditioning system, heated floors, and a swivel-mounted 32 inch LED TV. The BCR also offers a pass-through to the truck cab, enhancing accessibility and convenience.
TruckHouse’s BCR is designed for self-sufficiency, with features like a solid-state power management system and exterior storage compartments with carbon fiber doors. The BCR also includes exterior protection elements such as rear departure steel skid plates and rub rails, ensuring the vehicle can withstand the rigors of off-road travel.
The BCR is available for pre-order, with production set to begin in winter 2024. The starting price is $475,000, which includes the cost of the base Prospector XL RAM 3500 chassis but does not include many optional extras. Interested customers can secure their spot in the production schedule with a $10,000 refundable deposit.
