Dead Reckoning | The Rebelle Rally Docuseries :: Video of the Week

rebelle rally

The 8th Rebelle Rally kicks off this week in Mammoth Lakes, California, setting the stage for a challenging 10 days of precision driving and traditional navigation amongst some of the most iconic off-road terrain in the American West. Crowned as the longest competitive off-road rally in the United States, this event also just happens to be for women. Spanning 2,120 kilometers, rally competitors use maps, compasses, and roadbooks to navigate without using GPS, cell phones, or other electronic devices.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing stories of the Rebelle Rally involves its inception and the players involved. In Dead Reckoning, a new multi-part series, the story of the event and its creators comes to life in Episode 1, “Finding Direction,” with interviews from seasoned competitors, founder and Rally Director Emily Miller, Competition Director Chrissie Beavis, and Course Director Jimmy Lewis, as they bring you behind the scenes of the Rebelle Rally and its origins. Episode 2, “The Arduous Task,” delves into why the rally is so challenging. If you want to understand the Rebelle Rally format, the skills and mindset required, and more about the event, this series is undeniably for you. Stay tuned as Episodes 3, 4, and 5 are coming soon.

Ashley Giordano completed a 48,800-kilometer overland journey from Canada to Argentina with her husband, Richard, in their well-loved but antiquated Toyota pickup. On the zig-zag route south, she hiked craggy peaks in the Andes, discovered diverse cultures in 15 different countries, and filled her tummy with spicy ceviche, Baja fish tacos, and Argentinian Malbec. As Senior Editor at Overland Journal, you can usually find Ashley buried in a pile of travel books, poring over maps, or writing about the unsung women of overlanding history. @desktoglory_ash
