Introducing the EarthCruiser Extreme Land Cruiser 79 Series 330 XTR6X6

Before we delve into the details of this impressive vehicle, we have to ask ourselves why is a 6×6 vehicle desirable for overland travel. Well, the 6×6 platform is generally an awesome platform that offers incredible off-road capability, increased load capacity, and head-turning; look at me, street cred (if that is important to you). The EarthCruiser Extreme 330 XTR6X6 is a titan and instant classic built upon the venerable 79-Series Toyota Land Cruiser chassis; this vehicle has everything we look for in an overland vehicle, if money wasn’t an issue, of course. And, being an EarthCruiser, the XTR6X6 is packed with features that will impress even the Sultan of Brunei, who will likely be customer No.1 (adding the 6×6 to his estimated 7,000 car collection). Before you ask, no, this vehicle will unfortunately not be available in the US, but we can wait 25 years.

The foundation of the Extreme 330 XTR6X6 is firmly rooted in Toyota’s reliability. It offers a choice between a 6-speed Genuine Toyota automatic transmission or a standard manual, with the manual gearbox boasting an upgraded “fortified clutch.” As far as we can tell, this beast is powered by the bulletproof Toyota 4.5-liter V8 turbo diesel. The chassis extension and reinforcement are implemented using precision CAD modeling and CNC laser-cutting technology, blending modernity with the time-tested lobster-back fabrication techniques. This is a no-shed build; the EarthCruiser meets the stringent standards of the Second Stage Manufacture and Compliance Approval, ensuring that all modifications and upgrades adhere to Australian Design Rules (ADR) and Vehicle Standards Bulletins (VSB).

The heart of its drivetrain lies in the 6×6 Australia Bogie Drive System. This unique setup employs coil/airbag-sprung bogie drive rear axles, ensuring full load-sharing capability between them. The Ford differentials come equipped with ARB air lockers, and all three differentials can be locked simultaneously via in-cab switching. The EarthCruiser’s rear axles are designed for impressive load-bearing capacity, while hardened Chromoly 300M high-strength axle shafts ensure durability. The VRRS (Variable Ratio Rear Steer) enhances maneuverability, for which 6×6 vehicles are not generally known, by providing variable steering assistance from the rear bogie.

Portal axles add an impressive 5-inch lift and ground clearance beneath each axle, a feature exclusive to this vehicle. These axles are engineered for strength and tested to exceed expectations. Thanks to hub-mounted air supply, they also facilitate tire inflation and deflation via in-cab controls while on the move. A hydraulic brake booster enhances braking performance, while oversized vented brake rotors and upgraded calipers ensure stopping power.

A full airbag suspension with automatic load and horizon leveling allows the EarthCruiser to adapt to varying terrain, “kneel-ride-lift,” with up to 100mm of variation. Military-spec, heavy-duty sway bars with in-cab remote disconnect function allow for enhanced off-road articulation and will likely decrease body roll and improve paved road performance. Custom-built, heavy-duty Bilstein shock absorbers and a Bilstein heavy-duty steering damper further enhance the ride quality and control. With an increased gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 15,400 pounds and a payload capacity of 6,600 pounds, the EarthCruiser Extreme 330 XTR6X6 offers versatility and capability; its wheelbase measures 162 inches, measured from the front axle to the center of the rear axle group.

Long-range travel is assured with 73-gallon (total), custom-made polyethylene fuel tanks consisting of main and auxiliary tanks with a transfer pump. Naturally, the XTR6X6 is equipped for self-sufficiency and boasts a substantial 73-gallon (total) custom-made polyethylene fresh/drinking water capacity, with various tank options available. Additionally, it features a 7-gallon graywater tank and an integrated Arctic System that can withstand temperatures as low as -40°C, while the XTR6X6 camper overall is rated to operate in temperatures from -22°F to +150°F!

Inside the EarthCruiser, comfort and utility blend seamlessly, as we have come to expect from this highly skilled team. Leather-covered driver and passenger seats offer personalized color options; there are four seat-belted positions, including standard driver and passenger seats, and two seats in the camper area, accommodating up to four occupants with sleeping capacity for up to three people. The pop-top roof of the camper is constructed using a one-piece, infusion-molded, structural-foam design, and it’s securely sealed with double seals. The walls and floor are also molded from structurally insulated foam for added insulation and durability. Notably, EarthCruiser has employed vacuum infusion technology with carbon reinforcement to strengthen and lighten the camper module. This process results in a better fiber-to-resin ratio, ensuring high-quality parts with increased tensile strength and stiffness while reducing weight by an impressive 50 percent.

The camper features a structurally insulated and sealed side entry door with a deadlock, and all latches and locks are either flush or recessed for a sleek appearance. The roof curtain is a triple-layer design with PVC windows, insect screens, and full privacy screens. The cabin is entirely sound and vibration-dampened, with heat insulation for a cozy interior. One of our favorite features is the crawl-through passage from the cab to the camper, making it easy to access both areas. Precision CNC-routed Corian benchtops in the kitchen area offer a high-quality surface with personalized textures and colors. There’s plenty of storage space, a stainless-steel sink with a separately purified drinking fountain, and freshwater wash taps. Both internal and external showers are available with hot/cold water mixers, and the camper includes immediate and continuous hot water using diesel, along with central air heating likewise powered by diesel. Of course, there is also an electric slide-out Thetford chemical toilet ensuite. Additionally, a spacious lockable rear locker allows storing long items like fishing rods, skis, and camp chairs.

The Earthcruiser XTR6X6 is a self-sustaining power hub with a complete lithium battery system, substantial solar panels, and a 3,000-watt inverter. It incorporates advanced communication systems, including Space-X Starlink internet and optional internal/external security cameras. The touchscreen Garmin Head unit provides control and navigation, while Hella HID Spotlights, a lightbar, and 360-degree flood lighting ensure visibility in any condition. You’ll also find over 10 fast-charge USB ports scattered throughout the cabin for convenient device charging.

This EarthCruiser features a deluxe winch-compatible steel bullbar, protective steel scrub rails, and dual electric winches, front and rear. It also includes a four-post-hydraulic jack and leveling system for added convenience.

Now for the million-dollar question: how much will the Sultan have to hand over to add the 6×6 to his collection? The base price of the EarthCruiser Extreme Land Cruiser 79 Series 330 XTR6X6 will be in the region of $374,000 (USD), while the fully equipped top-of-the-range model can be yours for a cool $550,000.
