The 80 Series is a popular choice on our forum with recent adventure-builds including this 1993 FZJ-80, a 1991 HDJ81, and a 1992 HZJ80. However, today’s 1993 example might be the most desirable to date. It showcases the bulletproof 1HZ motor, triple lockers, and the “Active Vacation” Package. This option showcases a cooler center console, stowable sleeping platform, and a pull-out sink and stove. As discussed in Matt Scott’s “Why the Land Cruiser 80 Series Is The Next Classic 4WD” this vehicle carries forward the bulletproof dependability and capability of its predecessor but introduces a new level of refinement. It’s no surprise that it’s often the vehicle of choice for overlanding with drool-worthy builds from Overland Engineer, Eroztour, and Overland Bound. In addition, I highly recommend checking out Ashley Giordano’s detailed feature piece on Destined For Wild’s 80-Series Land Cruiser. Still not convinced of the Toyota’s credentials? From the Seller:
“The motor is the legendary 1HZ diesel. In February of 2022, a turbo with an air to water intercooler was installed at 54,000 kilometers. At the same time, a new water pump, timing belt, thermostat, and upgraded ‘Blue hub’ fan clutch was installed with heavier silicone oil for added cooling power. The turbo kit was purchased from Back 40 imports and uses all OEM Toyota parts with the exception of the air-to-water intercooler and the coolant Ts that were added to the heater lines. This kit was over $5,000 without labor. This Land Cruiser is the Active Vacation model, which includes power adjusting and folding mirrors, heated seats, and tons of other luxurious features.”
