In 2022, Moto Guzzi’s newly unveiled V100 Mandello with 115 horsepower and 77 pound-feet of torque is a certain far cry from your great grandfather’s original 8 horsepower Normale. After 101 years in the making, what else could one expect from one of Italy’s favorite motorcycle companies?
To continue with its centennial celebration, on September 28 through October 6, U.S. Guzzi enthusiasts will take to the pavement on the brand’s iconic V85 TT models in a seven-day, 1,400-mile ride from the Pacific Coast Highway through Yosemite National Forest, to Sequoia National Forest, and ending at Los Padres National Forest. Riders can opt to rent the V85 or bring their own Guzzi along for the camaraderie and love of riding. Everything is covered in this all-inclusive trip, including hotel, insurance, fuel, and support vehicle.
This is the second year Moto Guzzi has offered this experience in the U.S. It is the final ride of a tour that has already traversed the Ozarks and Yellowstone.
If the U.S. ride isn’t fast enough for you, consider being a spectator at the remaining 2022 Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance Trophy series on October 14-16. There, 350 riders will test their skills at the Misano World Circuit on Moto Guzzi’s new racing V7 or V7 III, which will race in a separate class. The 90-minute competition will be followed by a 60-minute night race on the final day. For more on the Moto Guzzi V7, see Publisher Scott Brady’s review here.
“This is a unique event that brings together riders from different cultures and varying levels of experience to pit their racing skills against each other,” says Moto Guzzi. “The competition on the track may be fierce, but every participant shares the passion, bond of friendship, and sheer fun that has inspired the Mandello Eagle for over a century.”
Races are slated to kick off in traditional Le Mans style with riders running from the start line, jumping on their bikes, and racing off. Another race features riders changing every 15 minutes. The October competition is the finale in a series that began in May. The Moto Guzzi Fast Endurance Trophy competition began in 2019, and even during the pandemic, Moto Guzzi managed to hold five races in 2020 and six races in 2021.
