KTM rarely lets any bike get stale, but it’s surprising to see the 790 Adventure already being updated. As we reported last November, KTM resurrected the model for 2024 and the new model arrived brimming with upgrades from head to tail. What could it possibly need after such a thorough re-boot? KTM’s answer is better suspension.
History
The 2024 updates for the 790 covered a host of functions. They modified the throttle bodies for more efficient fueling, and added a knock sensor. The 790’s Power Assist Slipper Clutch was also tweaked and fitted with new friction plates. And don’t forget KTM’s new 6-axis IMU that supports cornering traction control, ride modes, ABS and off-road ABS. Of course, a 5-inch TFT display was necessary to keep all the pertinent data available and readable. The bike also received some suspension improvement.

Apparently last year’s revisions didn’t fill the bill for premium handling, because that is the focus for this year. The new KTM 790 Adventure received an entire suite of upgraded components.

The 2025’s front fork is the same adjustable 43 mm WP APEX open cartridge unit used on the 890 Adventure. What KTM describes as “split function technology” makes one fork leg adjustable for rebound damping and the other for compression. Fork-top adjusters provide the means to modify handling.
The 890 Adventure also donated its rear shock to the cause. The WP APEX unit provides nearly 8 inches of travel and features adjustable rebound damping. A hand adjuster for spring preload makes short shrift of changes necessary for luggage or a passenger.
Beef It Up
Anyone thinking the 2025 790 needs a little more of this or that should peruse the array of Power Parts KTM has ready for it. Change the bar height, add protection, or just paste on some stickers, it’s all there waiting to tailor the new machine. And of course the graphics have changed to make last year’s bike look dated. Start checking the dealerships beginning in March, 2025 for the new 790.
