Will the All-New Nissan Armada Pro-4X Steal the Sequoia’s Crown?

The all-new 2025 Nissan Armada is set to redefine the full-size SUV segment with the introduction of its Pro-4X grade and an array of advanced technologies aimed at enhancing both on-road comfort and off-road capability. Designed for adventure and equipped with features that prioritize convenience and connectivity, the 2025 Nissan Armada comes in five trim levels: SV, SL, Pro-4X, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve. All trims offer the option of rear-wheel drive or Intelligent 4WD, except for the Pro-4X, which comes standard with 4WD.

Previous Nissan Armada models competed head to head with the likes of the Toyota Sequoia, a battle narrowly lost in terms of sales figures (in 2023, Armada sold 18,104 units while the Sequoia sold 20,557). The 2025 Nissan Armada Pro-4X has been upgraded significantly in an attempt to offer an edge over its Japanese cousin, the Nissan Armada and 2024 Toyota Sequoia, both of which offer strong performances. The Armada features a 425-horsepower V6 engine and a 9-speed transmission, while the Sequoia delivers 437-horsepower and uses a 10-speed automatic couple to the i-Force Max hybrid engine. Both SUVs boast impressive towing capacities, but the Sequoia exceeds the Armada with 9,520 pounds to the Armada’s 8,500 pounds. The Armada offers more cargo space, while the Sequoia is more fuel-efficient, achieving up to 22 mpg, with both models including advanced technology and spacious interiors, with the Armada prioritizing passenger comfort.

One of the standout additions to the 2025 Armada lineup is the introduction of the Pro-4X grade, which is tailored for off-road enthusiasts. This variant comes equipped with Intelligent 4WD as standard, an electronic locking rear differential, and a host of mechanical enhancements designed to improve performance on challenging terrain. These include a metal underbody skid plate, 20-inch wheels with 275/60R20 all-terrain tires, and an Adaptive Electronic air suspension system. The vehicle’s ground clearance reaches up to 9.6 inches when the suspension is raised to its highest setting, ensuring it can easily handle various off-road conditions.

The Pro-4X grade also features advanced technologies to simplify off-road driving. Eight selectable drive modes (standard, eco, sport, tow, snow, sand, rock, mud/rut) allow the vehicle’s systems to optimize performance for specific scenarios. Additionally, Hill Descent Control helps manage speed when navigating downhill slopes. Innovative camera technologies, such as the Invisible Hood View and Front Wide View, enhance visibility around the vehicle, making it easier to spot obstacles on tricky trails.

Under the hood, the 2025 Armada is powered by a new twin-turbo, direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers 425 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. This engine offers more power and torque than the outgoing V8 model, providing improved acceleration and towing capacity. Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the engine benefits from a wider gear ratio range, which enhances both acceleration and cruising efficiency. The Armada’s standard towing capacity is up to 8,500 pounds, with the addition of a Class IV tow hitch and a 7-pin harness/pre-wiring on all grades.

The interior of the 2025 Armada is designed with comfort and technology in mind. The cabin features high-quality materials and advanced technological integration, including dual 12.3-inch screens as standard. Higher trims, such as the Pro-4X, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve, offer even larger dual 14.3-inch displays. The dashboard combines physical controls with large, high-definition screens to ensure ease of use and a modern aesthetic. The interior also provides increased roominess, with expanded legroom in the first and third rows and more cargo space in all seating configurations.

In terms of safety and driver assistance, the 2025 Armada comes equipped with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes features such as Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Higher trims also offer ProPilot Assist 2.1, Nissan’s most advanced driver assistance technology, allowing hands-off driving in single-lane freeway conditions.

The exterior design of the 2025 Armada is equally impressive, featuring a bold new look with solid proportions and carefully controlled surfacing on its bodysides. The vehicle is available in various colors, including Alpine Metallic, Brilliant Silver Metallic, and Deep Ocean Blue Pearl, among others. A two-tone roof treatment on select trims adds a distinctive visual element to the vehicle’s design.

The pricing for the 2025 Nissan Armada Pro-4X has yet to be officially announced. However, based on the positioning of the Armada within Nissan’s lineup and previous models, it is expected that the Pro-4X variant will start at around $60,000 when it goes on sale in late 2024. This estimate is based on the off-road features and advanced technology offered in this model, positioning it competitively within the full-size SUV market. Pricing details will be confirmed closer to the release date, but projected at almost $10,000 cheaper than the base Sequoia TRD Pro, Toyota may have a fight on its hands with the 2025 Nissan Armada Pro-4X.
