When Too Much is Not Enough

The photos of this preposterous Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6 have been circling the internet for almost a year now. Even at a cursory glance, not even knowing a single detail of this truck, it’s clear the primary design objective was to achieve maximum––excess. Six wheels, twin turbos, 536 hp and 520 pounds-feet of torque make this a truck without peer. It would have been over the top with just four wheels, but adding a second driving pair puts this in the realm of stratospheric over-the-top-ness.

Because the images have been out for a while now, there’s been ample time for this project to gather a sizable collection of superlatives. The word awesome has often been juxtaposed with stupid. Love or hate the truck, the only outrageous bit of information left unknown until this month was the price of the G63 AMG 6×6. Hold onto your hat… If you happen to be one of the lucky 30 to get your paws on one of these excess-mobiles, it’s going to set you back a meager half a million bucks. That puts it in the rarified air of the world’s most expensive offroad trucks of all time. If you happen to have another $800,000 left over, you can have Texas Armoring give it a full military-grade make over.

If you fall into the love it category, don’t plan on seeing one of those 30 units here in North America. Early conjecture has nearly all of these trucks headed for the uber-rich of the Middle East. Why do I suspect at least one of these will end up in Dubai fully clad in gold plating?
