Drew Simms, an overlander traveling in his 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited, needs no introduction to many of our readers. But, for those who do not yet know him, Drew is well-known for his amazing imagery and breathtaking footage. He has been overlanding full-time in his Jeep since 2016 and captures the beauty of his travels in such a way that most only dream of. We admire his kind and solemn demeanor and his dedication to his art.
In 2000, I purchased my first hardcover book on aerial photography by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. It was a beautiful book with over 200 photos of captivating photography taken from hot-air balloons as well as helicopters; it was and still is a great piece of work. With the advancement of technology and the development of drones, it has become possible for people to reach those heights without too much effort, but it still requires the individual’s motivation to get off the beaten track to capture the beauty of this planet and that is precisely what Drew has done with his trip to Iceland. Although he drives the newest Land Rover Defender, he spent $40 on his camping equipment; a simply fabricated plank with four legs as a bed in the back, an inflatable mattress, and very little else. He has taken the luxurious and dependable option of driving a Land Rover but has sacrificed the luxury of comfort for his art. A true artist.
His entire trip video can be enjoyed below.
