Video of the Week :: Eva zu Beck – First 48 Hours Living Alone in my Truck in Mexico

Eva zu Beck is a Polish travel blogger who has explored more than sixty countries, showcases over two million followers on social media and has accumulated a colossal 80,000,000 video views.

Eva’s career was not always one of international travel and adventure, but rather a comfortable but unfulfilling corporate job in London. “I started to realize this wasn’t the reality I wanted to live. Long story short, I quit my job, left my personal life behind, moved out of London, and booked a one-way ticket to Nepal in the hope of telling stories on YouTube.” Three years later, she has an extremely successful YouTube channel (1,400,000 subscribers), creates content for partner brands, presented a six-part television series called “A Place Called Pakistan,” and worked as a travel consultant for Euronews. This success was no coincidence, and instead reflects the quality and authenticity of her work, which is motivated by a “mission to spread a message of courage, positivity, and independence.”

If you peruse Eva’s channel, you’ll quickly realize she has a video dedicated to almost every form of transport, whether that’s “Cycling Across a Whole Country,” “Riding a Motorbike in Yemen,” “Trekking Albania,” or even “Horse Trekking Mongolia.” During the pandemic, she announced that she’d purchased a Land Rover Defender 110 and set about transforming the vehicle into a Full-Time Home. As with all old Defenders, there were some initial teething problems, but once these had been addressed, Eva traveled to the Mountains of Turkey to test her new setup. Initial shakedown completed, the Defender was shipped across the world to begin a South American overlanding adventure.

In this installment, Eva documents her first 48 hours in Mexico while addressing many of the concerns regarding safety. As always, the episode is hugely informative and covers everything from truck stops, toilets, laundry, and camp spots, to food, police checkpoints, and bribes. Furthermore, she discusses the importance of the overland community and online resources when planning expeditions overseas. The video concludes with a brief overview of the gear she’s packed for a multi- year, four-season, overland trip and how it all fits into the Defender.
