In May, we wrote about the TruckHouse BCR, a $475,000 (starting price) overland vehicle built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV).
TruckHouse has since unveiled the interior of its new Carbon BCR, a cutting-edge expedition vehicle that, according to TruckHouse, aims to redefine off-grid travel. Built on the robust AEV Prospector XL chassis, the Carbon BCR combines luxury, durability, and advanced technology to provide a unique travel experience for adventurers looking to explore without compromising on comfort or head-turning style.
The Carbon BCR is designed to offer the amenities of a luxury home while maintaining the ruggedness needed for challenging terrains. Its interior is thoughtfully crafted, blending form and function. TruckHouse has created an interior that complements the vehicle’s vacuum-infused, aerodynamic carbon fiber shell and proven chassis. This design intends to ensure that the BCR is not only visually appealing but also built to withstand the demands of off-road travel.
At the rear of the BCR, the expansive U-shaped dinette is surrounded by panoramic dual-pane windows that provide 270-degree views of the surrounding landscape while allowing more than adequate ventilation and natural light. The galley in the Carbon BCR is designed to meet the needs of any chef and includes high-end appliances such as a stainless steel 5.1 cubic foot refrigerator/freezer, a dual-burner induction cooktop, and a convection oven/microwave. These features ensure that travelers can prepare meals with roughly the same convenience and quality they would expect at home, albeit with less but sufficient counter space.
The Carbon BCR is powered by a state-of-the-art 48-volt lithium battery system, capable of providing up to 50 hours of continuous air conditioning. Recharging the battery is efficient, requiring just over an hour of driving or utilizing the 1400-watt solar array. The vehicle is equipped with solid-state switching and a 10-inch Garmin display, offering a centralized user interface for managing all camper functions. This system can also be operated via smartphone or ergonomically placed switches throughout the interior, adding convenience and ease of use.
Interior construction materials have been carefully chosen for their durability and practicality. The use of vacuum-infused composite materials not only provides strength and durability but also reduces weight, apparently making the BCR significantly lighter than its competitors. The interior features ample overhead storage, a hanging closet, and a pull-out pantry, offering plenty of space for extended adventures and the ubiquitous Fjallraven outdoor clothing.
More valuable natural light floods the cabin through an oversized skylight and cab-over windows, creating an open and airy atmosphere. With a standing height of 6 foot 6 inches, the Carbon BCR feels spacious and inviting. It offers a king-size bed and a convertible full-size dinette bed, providing comfortable sleeping accommodations for up to four adults.
For colder climates, the BCR is equipped with a central heating system and heated floors, ensuring warmth and comfort regardless of the weather. An Insta-hot water system provides hot showers at any time, and the vehicle offers multiple toilet options, including standard cassette, dry flush, or composting toilets.
TruckHouse has designed the Carbon BCR with a focus on longevity and serviceability and claims that the vehicle is easy to maintain, allowing owners to spend more time enjoying their adventures rather than worrying about upkeep.
