Toyota Previews Upcoming Tacoma Trailhunter for Adventurous Overlanders

Toyota has given a glimpse into their vision future of manufacturer-equipped, adventure-seeking vehicles with the Tacoma Trailhunter, designed to cater to the off-road and overlanding community. The company plans to build on its well-established reputation for rugged off-road capability by introducing the Trailhunter grade of outfitted trucks, first unveiled as a concept at the 2022 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (SEMA).

The Trailhunter lineup is a testament to Toyota’s dedication to the overlanding market segment; the Trailhunter name will encompass a range of purpose-built trucks and SUVs aimed at outdoor enthusiasts. Trailhunter will encourage and support modifications to Toyota trucks using genuine or associated accessory products as a flagship offering.

Lisa Materazzo, group vice president of Toyota Division Marketing, emphasized that Trailhunter trucks will be factory-equipped to satisfy overlanding enthusiasts’ needs. Developed in-house by Toyota’s engineering teams, these vehicles promise to uphold the company’s quality, durability, and reliability standards.

Trailhunter vehicles are designed as highly capable, purpose-driven overlanding rigs based on Toyota’s proven trucks and SUVs and will come equipped with the necessary components and accessories to support a remote, off-the-grid experience.

The Trailhunter concept displayed at the 2022 SEMA Show featured various associated accessories, including a suspension setup, skid plates, roof rack, bumpers, lighting, refrigerator, and rooftop tent – all explicitly engineered for overlanding applications. Future Trailhunter offerings will provide terrain adaptability, protection, load-bearing performance, and storage functionality for essential equipment, recovery gear, and base camp necessities.

Additional Trailhunter details will be unveiled later this year and the Trailhunter badge, designed to resemble a compass, will symbolize the vehicle’s primary purpose – the journey – and serve as a hallmark of its functionality and purpose-built overlanding capabilities.
