Top Gear Declares the Jeep Avenger Electric Car of the Year

The Jeep Avenger has been named “Electric Car of the Year” and “Best Electric City Car” in the TopGear.com Electric Awards 2023, adding to the brand’s growing list of international accolades. The awards recognize the best electric vehicles in the industry, from hypercars to hatchbacks.

Jeep’s first-ever battery-electric vehicle was recognized for its innovative design and accessibility by the expert judging panel. Jack Rix, Editor of Top Gear Magazine, stated,

“The Avenger is one of those cars that seems to have been designed by people who enjoyed their job. It’s not tricksy or cute, and it’s not overwrought. It’s just that the shapes, textures, colors, and graphics are modern and cohere nicely. It is standard technology, carefully improved and well-wrapped, at a reasonable price. It’s accessible rather than exclusive. This is, for these times, a very good thing.”

The Avenger’s short length, blocky outline, and black plastic protection were also noted, making it easy to navigate through narrow city streets and capable of handling mild off-roading.

Jules Tilstone, Managing Director of Jeep UK, thanked the Top Gear judging panel for recognizing the Avenger as the standout electric vehicle in the sector. He added that the award-winning Avenger leads the brand’s European market offering of right-sized vehicles and represents a significant step toward the next generation of electrified Jeeps.

The Jeep Avenger’s accolades include the latest award from TopGear.com, Best Family SUV in the 2023 Women’s World Car of the Year awards, and European Car of the Year 2023.

The new Avenger is a compact SUV designed and built as a Jeep vehicle from day one. It is positioned in the rapidly growing B-SUV segment and offers plenty of room and storage possibilities for active people looking for a compact and efficient SUV. With a range of up to 250 miles in the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) cycle, the Avenger’s electric powertrain combines a unique 400-volt electric motor with 115 kilowatts and 260 Nm of maximum torque and a new 54 kWh battery.

The introduction of the Jeep Avenger in Europe marks the beginning of the next phase of the electrification of the Jeep brand, with four fully-electric vehicles set to hit the market by 2025. Jeep brand’s European sales will be 100% pure electric by the end of 2030.

Despite the accolades, the electric Jeep Avenger will not be available to the US market. However, the EV Jeep Recon is expected to be launched in the US sometime in 2024.
