The Top 5 Trip Reports

alt

Trip reports are to Overlanders what wine is to the French—a daily necessity.

When not traveling, there are no better ways to dream and plan your next adventure.

So what do you think makes a good trip report?

We have unearthed the top trip reports from 5 different sites related to overland travel.
This is in no way deep scientific research, but rather a quick compilation based on the number of views.

There are obviously many more out there, but this was a fun exercise – hope you enjoy.

Are you ready? Here it is.

Expedition Portal

No big surprise here – anyone who is familiar with the forum has seen this thread about driving through the DRC.
But at over 2 million views, this is the top overland thread we have found online.

If you haven’t read this yet, sit down, take a few hours (or days…) and enjoy – you won’t regret it. Just don’t do it at work or you may end up unemployed sooner than you thought.

ADVRider

The ADVRider site is loaded with adventurous motorcyclists who create really entertaining threads. It seems like everyone is pushing their limits.
The current top thread is about the BAM road, as described here by the author:
“The BAM Road is one of the (if not THE) toughest adventure roads left on this planet. The Road runs 4300 km (2700 miles) across extreme Siberia from Vanino on the Russian pacific coast through Komsomolsk, Fevralsk, Tynda, Severobaikalsk, Ust Kut, Bratsk and back to the Trans-Siberian Highway near Taishet”.

Hang on to your bike seat for the whole story.

HUBB

The HUBB has been around for a very long time and is well recognized as one of the best references for international overland travel.
This is the story of a young educated guy who deliver appliances for work in Alaska and saved money in order to take his motorcycle from Alaska to South America and back. A great honest account of his ride, including his multiple accidents and getting his confiscated bike out of “jail” in Ecuador.
