Skinny Guy Campers, operating under the banner of Bontrager Outdoors, has introduced its latest creation, known as Armor. This camper distinguished itself via a minimalist design and robust features and has been creating a bit of a fuss online and in the real world, thanks to an attractive, practical design, extensive range of accessories, and affordability.
Armor has been designed to bridge the gap between overlanding and general outdoor adventure travel and traditional RV campers. The Armor 15B floorplan, tailored for families and groups, intends to open new horizons for those looking to get the most from the overlanding lifestyle. The Skinny Guy crew asserts that the Armor’s versatility extends beyond family adventures as it caters to the needs of serious overlanders and weekend warriors by providing adaptability and flexibility.
Drawing upon over 30 years of hands-on experience in the RV industry, with deep-rooted connections not only in the heartland of America but also in Australia, Armor is poised to fulfill various adventurous aspirations. Whether your ambition is to travel the world, explore North America, or conquer local RV parks and tailgating events, Armor is well-equipped to meet these goals without breaking the bank.
Austin Bontrager, owner/COO of Bontrager Outdoors, shared the vision behind Armor, stating,
“We aimed to create a towable camper option that possesses the ruggedness and off-road capability of our truck bed campers. We believe we’ve achieved this with the new Armor trailer.”
Jason Bontrager, owner/CEO of Bontrager Outdoors, emphasized their commitment to upholding the legacy established over 50 years ago by their grandfather, Lloyd Bontrager, the founder of Jayco. Their top priorities include providing excellent support to their dealer network and end customers alongside driving much-needed innovation within the RV industry.
So, what is all the fuss about? Well, the Armor’s list of features is quite extensive, from a rugged exterior to a comfortable interior. The Armor boasts a zero wood, composite panel construction to minimize thermal bridging, formed metal cabinets (instead of an extrusion-based construction), a full wet-bath for added convenience, a pull-out exterior kitchen, Traeger Smoker, a portable induction burner, and a sizeable chest-style refrigerator with a fridge slide.
To power the various accessories and that power-hungry induction cooker, there is an integrated Redarc Redvision Power Management System, a 200-watt fixed solar panel mounted to the roof rack, a solar port on the exterior wall for additional solar input, and space for a large battery bank. For added comfort and convenience, the team offers a Nautilus water works panel, a Truma Combi Eco furnace and water heater, and a Dometic 13.5K low-profile AC.
So, now that you have the comforts of home, you can take your home on wheels beyond the paved roads and organized campsites thanks to functional rock sliders, a BAL Independent suspension for a smoother ride, a Lock ‘n’ Roll Articulating hitch for secure towing, recovery D-rings, an ARK fold-away tongue jack with swivel caster, a full spare tire, all-terrain tires and aluminum wheels. To protect the rear of the camper, the camper features a custom, robust rear bumper and spare tire carrier, while up front, you will find a custom front MOLLE panel with Rotopax and recovery board mounting. The exterior is trail-ready with overland-style windows and doors, a full exterior wrap for enhanced durability, custom Line-X on the lower exterior portion for added protection, oversized front exterior storage from RC Industries, stabilizer jacks on each corner, a 270-degree freestanding awning for shade and outdoor living, and MorRyde solid entry steps for easy access. There is even a custom full roof rack designed for rooftop tents.
