The Eezi-Awn Galaxy Roof Tent is a Breath of Fresh Air

Great news for those who prefer a view of the great outdoors to a view of the canvas (and great news for the claustrophobic): The new Eezi-Awn Galaxy rooftop tent features a unique 6.9-foot full-length door/wall, four large windows, and skylights. Available from Equipt in the USA, the Galaxy is ideal for couples or solo travelers who prefer a slim, quick-pitching roof tent.

Weighing in at just 100 pounds, the tent is equipped with its own aluminum rack system, essentially a full-length base plate, that features two bars that clamp onto most roof racks or load bars. The total length of the Galaxy rooftop tent incorporates a gas strut mechanism, simplifying the process of opening and closing to a mere 40 seconds once the cover has been removed. Opening the tent is a simple process; once the ratchet strap has been released and the strap unclipped, the tent opens with a light push. To close the tent, the user needs only to pull on a strap that collapses the gas struts and install the PVC cover, perhaps with the help of a friend if the wind is blowing. Due to its length, the Galaxy will dominate the roof area of most overland vehicles.

Constructed from robust 260GSM ripstop canvas, the Galaxy tent’s large dual windows and clear PVC in the roof offer excellent ventilation and stargazing opportunities, hence the name. Enhanced with a 70mm laminated high-density mattress (with a uniquely African wildlife-inspired cover), flysheet, two storage pockets per side, and an aluminum extruded ladder, Eezi-Awn has engineered this tent to combine comfort and convenience.

The tent’s design facilitates use on various vehicle types, when not in use, the tent folds to 82.68 x 55.12 x 6.30 inches. Unlike many rooftop tents that are relatively complicated to install, the Galaxy tent is a solution for those who head out for weekend trips and shorter journeys as the focus is on portability and ease of installation, which are ideal for a quick setup on a daily vehicle. That said, you could also probably use this tent on your drive to Timbuktu.
