Staples In Tents, also fondly known as Black People Off-Road, are riding high on the success of The Gathering held in Hendersonville, North Carolina, last October. The event proved so popular that world travelers and adventurers Sonya & Necota Staples partnered with the Atlanta HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Alumni Alliance to create an outdoor fellowship experience. The Gathering “Get Grounded” HBCU event will be held in March in beautiful Stockbridge, GA.
Sonya and Necota are well-known, loved, and respected within the overlanding community. “Through visuals and curated experiences, we increase outdoor diversity by educating and inspiring others to become more comfortable, confident, and curious about the outdoor adventure.”
The full day of fun & fellowship will be focused on “camp education,” and attendees will have the opportunity to learn adventure planning and other skills from outdoor experts. The event will also include a performance from the Atlanta Symphony, an outdoor cooking demonstration, delicious fish fry, happy hour, a local DJ, and an evening campfire with smores. There will also be prizes and giveaways to end the day on a high note. This event is for anyone who loves good people and has a passion for the great outdoors; kids are always welcome.
REI and New Belgium Brewing support the event and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (please get in touch with Staples if your organization would like to get involved with this or future events) and will be held in Stockbridge, GA, from 12 pm to 7 pm on March 11, 2023. Tickets are $10 and available from the Staples in Tents website.
All proceeds from The Gathering will go to Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance to benefit scholarships for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
