The styling of the BAM E103 Freestyle UTV (utility terrain vehicle) reminds one of a sporty, compact Alfa Romeo, but the similarity ends there. Fully electric and designed to offer premium styling matched with blistering on and off-road performance, the BAM UTV is bound to bring a new level of excitement to a market segment dominated by gas-powered motors. UTVs were traditionally designed as workhorses, hauling equipment or supplies to remote, inaccessible locations. But, people being people, we soon realized the potential for recreation, and UTVs became lighter, faster, and way more fun. As the demand and popularity of recreational UTVs grew, the market exploded and became a multi-billion-dollar segment of the automobile industry (the UTV market is currently valued at roughly $7 billion and is estimated to grow to more than $11 billion by 2027). The writing is on the wall: as the greater automotive industry moves toward all-electric, so will the recreational sector. BAM is positioning itself to add additional value and performance variants to the UTV market and become a major player in the electric segment by offering a unique vehicle that promises to blow traditional UTVs off the trail.
Battle Approved Motors, commonly known as BAM, is an early-stage start-up that is developing electric vehicle technology for work and performance-based side-by-side vehicles. Briton Chris James is the founder, CEO, and driving force behind BAM; you might know of the Amazon Prime show Mod Kids USA, an annual 90-minute feature documenting an elite class of youngsters who race off-road mod karts. After producing the series, Mr. James was inspired to produce a high-performance UTV. The BAM UTV concept was born with the goal of being the first high-end elite UTV straight out of the box, delivering elite ownership, experience, and performance. The R101 will be a zero-emission vehicle with an associated carbon footprint, no noise pollution, and reliable, high-performing electric batteries.
BAM plans to offer three variants of its low-maintenance EV and an electric trailer to house and charge the UTV. The racing series model will be called the R101, with an S102 and E103 also planned for production; the flagship model will be the four- or two-seater E103. Yes, there are plans to develop a competitive racing series.
The big question is, when will this vehicle be available?
According to the BAM website,
“While we are currently in the engineering and development stages, we have partnered with only the best businesses in the industry to bring to market the best performing vehicle possible. As more and more businesses understand and see the electrifying value that BAM provides, our growing list of Battle Approved partners will just get stronger and stronger. For now, we are not releasing prices/specs until we begin accepting reservations. After our first round of funding wraps up, we should also be able to provide a better time frame for the (R101 race model) unveiling.”
So, how and why do you get a slice of the pie? BAM believes that this is a ground-floor investment in what will eventually be, in their words, an empire. Based on the influence and growth of companies such as Tesla, BAM is positioning itself as the future of recreational EVs and beyond.
