If you have yet to visit the Alpha Motor Corporation website or YouTube channel, you are in for a treat. Any gearhead with a love of classic vehicles will find creator Edward Lee’s ’70s- and ’80s-inspired electric concept vehicles irresistible. He blends muscular and sleek lines with a minimalist and modern twist, incorporating new technology with classic appeal. Many of the renderings are merely drool-worthy concepts, but some will make it into production by 2025 and are not exorbitantly priced. While we could wax lyrical all day about the Ace coupe, Saga sedan, or the Wolf truck, the CAMP—based on the Adventure Series Rex SUV—has us inspired, and we can’t help but hope that some elements of this concept will eventually leave the virtual world and see the light of day.
The CAMP (Collaborative Adventure Mobility Platform) concept is a virtual collaboration among Alpha Motor, Rolling Stone Korea, Delta Pro Shovel, Alubox from Equipt, KC LED Pro6 Lights, Fuji Wheels, Move Mug, and Don’t Trip Drip SS Tee, all of whose products come together quite beautifully on screen. According to the press release, “CAMP is a result of Alpha’s unique automotive process that opens new ways to experience products and builds upon the Move Humanity culture of community innovation … The digital twin is a virtual creation identical to an existing physical object or experience in real-time. The origin of a digital twin speaks to Alpha’s initiative to make industrialization more efficient, responsible, and sustainable through virtual validation. Alpha has been leading EV development through Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), and CAMP is an industry-first virtual experience of amazing brands that are collaboratively shaping the future of mobility culture. Throughout the CAMP site, featured brands showcase a digital twin of physical products available at each respective online store.”
Fundamentally, the current concept is only partially practical for overland travel as there is a bit too much going on. Let’s get this out of the way immediately: the yurt is ridiculous and entirely unnecessary (as is the full-size Weber-style BBQ.)! If we remove those two elements, what is left is nearly perfect, an off-roader and teardrop trailer for easy and comfortable summer travel.
The pure electric 400-volt Adventure Series Rex is an attractive vehicle with styling elements that remind us of the Bronco, LR3, Wrangler, and both the Classic and new Defender, and it will likely be priced around $60,000. The vehicle will be fully electric with a claimed 275-mile range, a rapid charger, and dual motor AWD. It will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds, which is faster than a Dodge Durango cop car. When not escaping from the boys in blue (we do not recommend trying this), the Rex can tow 3,000 pounds. The Rex will measure (in inches) 190 (L) x 78 (W) x 68 (H), with seating for four passengers, a digital display for the driver, premium seats and trim, and a premium sound system to drown out the drone of the BFG mud-terrain tires. The interior, particularly up front, really gives us the fizz with a luxurious bench seat parallel to an upgraded Defender-style dashboard and minimal console. Spacious storage compartments are located both underneath the vehicle’s hood and rear hatch, offering an estimated 14 cubic feet of storage.
This vehicle looks ready to take on the trail quietly; the doors are tubular, as is the roll cage, front and rear bumpers, and rock sliders. A winch sits neatly beneath the grill, and the roof rack is equipped with KC LED Pro6 lights.
The “teardrop” trailer is an attractive unit equipped with everything a couple could desire for daily travel and as a base camp, including a rooftop tent, an exterior ladder, a Hi-Lift jack, a Delta Pro shovel, and what appear to be jerry cans, no doubt for the storage of water. At the rear is a sleek kitchen area complete with a sink and built-in storage. Campers access the interior through large doors on either side, and there is plenty of space to relax and recharge. A closed upper storage bin flows into the ceiling, and utility hooks are installed around the inner structure.
According to Alpha Motor Corporation,
“Alpha’s advanced application of virtual validation vertically integrates the automotive value chain. It goes beyond producing beautiful cars; it improves safety, optimizes processes, and saves resources to access high-quality EVs for the mass market. We are excited to collaborate with forward-thinking brands to revolutionize the industry and bring focus to a healthier and more sustainable future.”
We can’t wait to see the Alpha Motor Corporation concepts come to life. If you feel the same, have a browse of the website, and you may be inspired to put a deposit down on a vehicle of the future with classic style.
