The Adventure Ready 2024 Tacoma Will be Available in December 2023

The 2024 Tacoma, unveiled at the 2023 Overland Expo West, marks a significant evolution for the 2024 model year. The extensive Toyota press release, almost 4,000 words in length, is as comprehensive as the substantial upgrades confirmed for the 2024 Tacoma. This popular Japanese pickup truck, a mainstay in the US mid-size truck segment, seamlessly integrates its legacy of quality and reliability with modern technology, rugged design, and versatile capabilities. Toyota consistently makes notable global impacts in the automotive industry.

Tacoma Tacoma

The 2024 Tacoma’s appeal centers around its powerful and efficient engine options. Central to this is the introduction of two dynamic powertrain choices featuring a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine. The standard powertrain, available in most grades, delivers up to 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, paired with a new eight-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The entry-level SR variant, designed for efficiency, generates up to 228 horsepower and 243 pound-foot of torque while achieving up to 26 mpg on highways. The addition of an electric motor in the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain further enhances these impressive figures.

Available in spring 2024, the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain combines the 2.4-liter engine with a 48-horsepower electric motor integrated into the transmission, powered by a 1.87-kilowatt NiMH battery pack. This results in a total system output of 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, offering substantial power. This powertrain, available in the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited grades, and standard in the TRD Pro and Trailhunter models, sets a new benchmark for torque in the Tacoma range. Toyota claims it can ascend a 6 percent grade without downshifting while offering up to 27 mpg combined.

Dave Christ, Toyota group vice president and general manager, stated,

“Our engineers outdid themselves with this next-generation Tacoma. This truck offers customers more of everything, including technology, style, and capability, all with an attractive starting MSRP. This is a segment Toyota has carried for years, and we believe this next iteration of Tacoma only elevates the standard.”

The 2024 Tacoma’s design, inspired by Toyota’s Baja race trucks and truck DNA, is aptly described by the mantra, “Badass adventure machine.” Each model is uniquely designed, featuring high-mount headlamps, functional air guides, and a hexagonal grille motif. The design team at Toyota’s CALTY Design Research Center focused on capturing the essence of off-road adventure while maintaining a family resemblance across Toyota trucks. Notably, the rear bumper is designed for easy replacement with aftermarket options, a flexibility not mirrored in the front end.

Tacoma

Built on the TNGA-F global truck platform, shared with the Tundra, Sequoia, and the upcoming Land Cruiser, the new Tacoma uses high-strength steel and aluminum to enhance chassis rigidity and reduce weight. Across all grades, significant improvements enhance the Tacoma’s on and off-road capabilities. In most grades, a fully redesigned coil spring multi-link rear suspension significantly improves ride and handling. The 2024 Tacoma also boasts impressive towing and payload capacities, with a maximum towing capacity of 6,500 pounds and a maximum payload of 1,710 pounds for i-Force Max models.

Tacoma Tacoma

Advanced technology is a highlight in the 2024 Tacoma. The cabin features a new multimedia touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. Safety is prioritized with all models equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, incorporating enhanced sensors and a suite of active safety and convenience systems.

Tacoma

Available in various grades and configurations, including SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter, the 2024 Tacoma is scheduled for dealership arrival in December 2023. The i-Force Max models are expected in Spring 2024. With a starting MSRP of $31,500, the 2024 Tacoma is poised to maintain its dominance in the mid-size pickup truck market, offering unmatched performance and value.
