Sena Releases Three New Helmets With Built-in Comms

Stryker and Impulse, the Smart Helmet components of Sena’s Quantum Series of motorcycle communications products, are ready for the road. Although both Sena helmets are packed with innovative communications technology, Stryker is a full-face design priced at $549, while Impulse is a modular, or flip-face design, costing $699. Both shells are a composite fiberglass construction, with a plush, acoustically designed liner next to your head. What better way to show off the premium Sound By Harmon Kardon that streams through the high-tech speakers and microphone?

The smarts don’t stop there. These intelligent devices have a voice-activated capability to connect with either Google Assistant or Siri, and use voice commands to the helmets themselves, allowing a rider to use both hands to control the bike. Sena’s motorcycle app lets you easily configure your helmet’s settings, plus they understand eight languages.

At the rear are two other helpful features, an LED taillight to help drivers notice you and a magnetic charging port that supports WiFi for obtaining automatic software updates.

You’d expect Sena to provide excellent communications and tech, and these two helmets won’t disappoint. You can chat with your riding pals up to 1.2 miles away in open terrain using either Bluetooth intercom or Sena’s Mesh system. Mesh can extend that distance to 5 miles in a group of six or more riders. In Open Mesh, you can select from nine comms channels.

For those not requiring all the smarts of the Quantum club, Sena offers an alternative for $249. The Outforce is a full-face helmet with a convenient Sena Bluetooth communication system built-in. The DOT-rated helmet comes with the speakers and microphone integrated and is ready to go out of the box, with no installation required. Chat with riding partners using four-way Bluetooth intercom, or pair a smartphone to stream music, hear turn-by-turn GPS directions, or take a phone call. An intuitive three-button control is located on the left-hand side of the helmet for easy helmet operation.

Whichever you choose and wherever you ride, Sena’s Smart Helmets are ready to take you to new levels of motorcycling connectivity.

Arden’s first motorcycle was a Yamaha Enduro, obtained while in high school. It set the stage for decades of off-pavement exploration on dual-sports and adventure bikes. Camping in the middle of nowhere became his favorite pursuit. As a former whitewater river guide and National Park Service seasonal employee, Arden believes in wilderness, wildlife, and being kind to the earth. A self-taught writer who barely passed English classes, he has contributed adventure stories and tested motorcycles and accessories for Rider Magazine and other outlets for nearly 30 years. In that time, he’s worn out two KLR 650s and is currently following the road to the middle of nowhere on his Ténéré 700 and an aging but reliable DR-Z 400S.
