Rivian Launches the R1S TRI SUV

The Rivian R1S TRI is named the TRI as it boasts three powerful motors, two motors in the rear and one in the front, offering a balance of impressive power and range. According to the Rivian marketing team, the adventure-ready, three-row sport utility vehicle is designed and built for those seeking sustainable off-road capability without sacrificing luxury or technology. Equipped with Rivian’s quad-motor all-wheel-drive system, the R1S TRI, on paper, offers exceptional control and torque, making it equally at home on urban streets and challenging terrain. It features up to 835 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about three seconds, allowing it to compete with many high-performance SUVs in the market.

The R1S TRI is powered by a large battery pack, delivering an estimated range of over 300 miles on a single charge. This range is designed to accommodate a variety of driving styles and needs, whether users are navigating city commutes or embarking on long-distance road trips. Fast-charging capabilities allow for up to 140 miles of range in just 20 minutes, ensuring that users can quickly recharge during stops.

What makes the R1S TRI particularly appealing is its versatility. The all-electric drivetrain enables powerful performance on rugged terrain thanks to features like adjustable air suspension and dynamic handling. The vehicle can raise its ride height to tackle off-road obstacles or lower it for improved aerodynamics during highway driving. Additionally, its all-wheel-drive system can deliver precise torque to each wheel, helping drivers confidently navigate steep inclines or slippery surfaces. This combination of electric power and off-road capability sets the R1S apart in a market increasingly focused on eco-friendly travel.

Inside, the R1S TRI offers a refined and tech-savvy environment. Its minimalist cabin design centers around a large touchscreen infotainment system, which controls most of the vehicle’s functions, from climate settings to media playback. The lack of physical buttons creates a clean aesthetic while also offering access to software updates that enhance the vehicle’s features over time. Rivian’s interior is designed with premium, luxurious, and durable materials, making it ideal for families and adventurers alike.

Safety and convenience features are abundant. The R1S TRI comes equipped with advanced driver assistance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking. Its 360-degree camera system and sensors aid in parking and navigating tight spaces, making the large SUV easier to handle in urban settings. The vehicle also includes Rivian’s “Gear Guard,” which uses cameras to monitor surroundings and protect cargo.

The R1S TRI is also practical, with ample cargo space. With all three rows of seats in place, the SUV offers decent storage, but when the rear seats are folded down, the available cargo area expands significantly, making it ideal for extended trips or carrying more oversized items. Additional storage compartments, including a front trunk (frunk), add to its utility.

Another noteworthy feature is its towing capability. The R1S TRI is rated to tow up to 7,700 pounds, making it a competitive option for those transporting boats, trailers, or other equipment. Despite its electric drivetrain, Rivian has ensured that the vehicle maintains strong towing performance, with intelligent power management to ensure efficiency even when carrying heavy loads.

In terms of customization, buyers can select from several configurations and options to tailor the R1S TRI to their preferences. From different wheel sizes and tire types to various interior and exterior finishes, the vehicle can be personalized to suit both aesthetic tastes and functional needs. Customers can opt for different battery sizes depending on whether they prioritize range or performance.

The Rivian R1S TRI starts at approximately $108,000.
