Overlanding Challenges in Sandwich Harbor and Skeleton Bay, Namibia :: Video of the Week

Kai and Irati are from Germany and Spain, respectively, and are currently on a full-time overland journey. After quitting their jobs and the safety of home, they left Germany in March 2022 and traveled with their Land Rover Defender 110 to Namibia. They are currently on an adventurous journey along the Namib coast, facing the formidable challenges nature brings in both Skeleton Bay, known as the Diamond of the Desert, and Sandwich Harbor.

After exploring the Walvis Bay area, Pelican Point, and a starkly beautiful and vast salt refinery, they venture towards the Atlantic Ocean, where the desert terrain becomes rugged and challenging. The weather also poses a formidable challenge; however, the occasional lifting of the fog reveals a ruggedly beautiful coastline inhabited by jackals, seals, seagulls, and cormorants. The potentially treacherous journey to Sandwich Harbor is typically undertaken with the guidance of an experienced tour guide, but the couple make the courageous decision to take on the dunes and the wild Atlantic Ocean alone. This daring adventure can only be attempted during low tide when the sea retreats enough to allow vehicles to pass between the ocean and the imposing near vertical dunes, with no option for escape. Unfortunately, not all goes to plan. You will have to watch the video to find out whether the couple avoided disaster.
