Overland Expo Foundation Announces 2023 Grant Recipients

The Overland Expo Foundation has revealed the recipients of its grant program for 2023, which supports organizations and individuals working towards protecting public lands and maximizing rights for overland travelers. The foundation aims to fund projects aligning with its mission of turning passion into protection.

One of the wholly deserving recipients of the grant is Team Overland, which has been awarded $2,500 to organize its Memorial Weekend event. Team Overland has faithfully served the veteran community since 2015, intending to assist veterans and their families by sharing the beauty of the great outdoors with like-minded people. Volunteer guides help veterans reintegrate using outdoor adventures in Southern Oregon wilderness areas as the catalyst. The grant will support the Memorial Weekend event. Team Overland

Wilderness Volunteers has been granted $6,000 to provide affordable opportunities for everyone to participate in the hands-on stewardship of public lands. Wilderness Volunteers have been providing affordable and meaningful volunteer service opportunities to conserve and protect America’s wild lands since 1997, working hand-in-hand with the US Forest Service, National Park Service, the BLM, and the US Fish & Wildlife Service. The Hole in the Rock Road Naturalization helps naturalize dispersed camping areas, hiking trails, and recreation areas along the Hole in the Rock Road in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Two Wolf Foundation’s Warrior Stewardship Team 003 (WST003) has been awarded a $9,788 grant to allow participants to connect with nature, find healing in therapeutic natural landscapes, connect, and serve a new mission as a team. The Two Wolf Foundation supports combat veterans and first responders who have attended clinical and non-clinical PTSD and substance addiction treatment programs. WST003 will focus on stewarding public land trails in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, specifically around the Paasasikwana Naokwaide trailhead (formerly known as the Squaw Creek area) just north of Clayton, ID and the Salmon River. TreadLightly! Overland Foundation has been awarded a $20,000 grant to promote responsible recreation through education, stewardship, and communication. The foundation will execute four outdoor ethics stewardship projects in conjunction with each of the four Overland Expo Shows. Volunteers will learn proper, ethical overland behavior and help to rectify trail or public land issues or install signage to help others use the lands responsibly. TreadLightly!

The Overland Expo Foundation continues to work towards protecting the accessibility of public lands by supporting restoration and cleanup programs and educational initiatives. They rightly believe that responsible use of natural resources is essential for future generations to continue to enjoy the outdoors.

The Overland Expo Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that welcomes applications and donations for its grant program for 2023. For more information, please visit their website at overlandexpofoundation.org.
