Overland Classifieds :: 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Diesel

Much like the Ford Raptor or AEV Brute, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is not your average truck but a premium, uprated, off-road-focused vehicle designed to tackle the toughest terrain. While the Bison is not an inexpensive truck per se (current models are priced at $54,000, including optional extras), it is a significant saving over the Raptor, which comes in at around $70,000, while the discontinued Brute was an eye-watering $89,000. I think the Chevy reflects decent value considering the specifications and is an excellent overland platform that’s both comfortable and engaging on-road and impressive when the tarmac ends.

This is not the first overland-equipped example I’ve featured, with a recent 2020 ZR2 Bison w/ Super Pacific Camper showcasing the alternative 3.6-liter V6 listed for $65,000. While the performance of the V6 is impressive, I’d opt for the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel, which still provides plenty of grunt, but with the bonus of improved fuel mileage (the current owner has seen 24 mpg on the highway while towing a trailer). Today’s offering has covered just 61,000 miles, incorporates tasteful modifications, Smartcap EVO sport canopy, and is priced at a competitive $49,000.

From the Seller:

“My long-awaited day one reservation Ford Bronco has arrived at the dealer, and while I would love to keep this truck, I cannot swing both.”

The Bison diesel is fitted with a 2.8-liter motor that produces 186 horsepower, 369 pound-feet of torque, and returns a combined 19 mpg (although it’s worth noting that many owners report 25-30mpg on the highway). A powerful yet relatively economical engine is matched with impressive go-anywhere performance courtesy of 4WD, locking front and rear differentials, low-range, Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve shocks, an armor package, and more. Inside, the Bison is a nice place to be, with driver comforts that include:

  • Infotainment system with navigation, 8-inch
  • Climate control
  • Power and heated leather seats
  • Bose audio
  • Cruise control
  • Keyless entry
  • On-board WiFi (membership required)
  • Rearview camera

Distinguishing Features

  • AEV Highmark fender flares, snorkel, and front bumper
  • ComeUp winch
  • ARB twin compressor
  • Decked bed storage system
  • Smartcap EVO Sport with roof rails
  • BFGoodrich KO2 A/T tires
