Overland Classifieds :: 2019 Ford F-550 Severe Duty

It’s safe to say that trucks are by far the most popular platform for overland builds on our forum, whether that’s alongside a canopy, camper, or custom habitation box. Over the past few months, we’ve shared a number of these adventure-ready rigs, including this 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Crew Max Limited, a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Edition w/ Super Pacific Camper, and a 2020 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Overland Build.

So, what makes this platform so desirable? Arguably, no other vehicle comes close to the versatility a truck provides. If you opt for a double cab then you’ve got a rig that can comfortably accommodate the family while also being a great commercial workhorse. Further, once the weekend comes around you have access to an array of lightweight canopies and demountable campers that can be fitted with relative ease to create the perfect adventure rig. Further still, with many trucks offering 4WD, locking differentials, armor, high and low range, considerable clearance, sway-bar disconnect technology, and more, they have enough capability to take on just about anything. Finally, there’s a vast network of aftermarket parts, accessories, and services readily available that can totally transform a truck’s go-anywhere performance while outfitting it with all you need for camping off-grid.

There have been a wide selection of heavily modified trucks posted on our website, but today’s F-550 Severe Duty might  be the most rugged to date. This one-owner rig features the desirable 6.7-liter diesel V8 motor (it has covered just 12,000 miles), incorporates the DBL Design Severe Duty Conversion, extensive modifications and accessories, and is under factory warranty until April 2024.

From the Seller:

“We built the Ford F-550 overland camper for our upcoming 25th wedding anniversary vacation in 2020. Our plan was to go to Alaska for a month and then hit the two major roads in Canada, one of which required two spares and off-road capability. After that we had plans for Baja and relaxing in the sun, which required self-sufficiency since we don’t like camping with everyone else. The idea was to keep the vehicle and continue traveling throughout North America periodically. As it turned out, after the camper build was complete, the world would shut down and vacation plans fell apart due to border closings. We used the camper in Upper Peninsula Michigan and put about 12,000 miles on it, loved every minute of it! It exceeded our expectations when off-roading. In the meantime, we purchased land in northern Michigan and are now planning to build. I still want to keep it, but this is the right decision as we have big plans for our new property.”
