“Over 50 Outside” Offers Hiking Sponsorships for Women Over 50

Overlanding is all about adventure, exploring the the backcountry, relying on your own preparedness and resources, and spending time outdoors. Aside from vehicle-based travel, putting boots to the trail is remarkably similar and aims to achieve many of the same goals when the road runs out.

Oboz, Osprey, and Outdoor Research, in collaboration with 52 Hike Challenge and In Solidarity, are celebrating the benefits of hiking by launching a new initiative called Over 50 Outside. This supportive community will bring together women over the age of 50 who are passionate about the outdoors, motivating and empowering them to hit the trails weekly.

To kick off the initiative, Over 50 Outside is offering a sponsorship to 150 women. The sponsorship includes the 52 Hike Challenge Ultimate Package, monthly inspirational check-ins, gear advice, and fun perks from brand sponsors.

The year-long program launches in September 2021 with a virtual kick-off followed by monthly check-ins covering topics such as hiking gear for the different seasons, recreating responsibly, as well as sessions on conditioning, nutrition, and more. Applications are open now through August 15, 2021. Hikers of all experience levels are encouraged to apply for the sponsorship at 52hikechallenge.com. For more information, follow #over50outside on social media.

Want to commit to one hike per week for a year? The 52 Hike Challenge is open to all. Learn more at 52hikechallenge.com.

Ashley Giordano’s first foray into overland travel involved a 48,800-kilometer journey from Canada to Argentina with her husband, Richard, in their well-loved but antiquated 1990 Toyota Pickup. Currently cruising along the iconic Silk Road in a 2008 Toyota Tundra, her full-time navigator duties are rewarded with bowls of plov and lagman noodles, hikes in the Tian Shan, and countless cups of fragrant Tashkent tea. As senior editor at Overland Journal, you can usually find Ashley buried in a pile of travel books, poring over maps, or writing about the unsung women of overlanding history, including her enduring inspiration, Barbara Toy. @desktoglory_ash
