Oregon Trailer Teardrop Trailers Combine Style, Practicality, and Affordability

When it comes to teardrop trailers for overland travel, Oregon Trailer has made quite a name for itself. We first encountered their range of teardrop trailers at the Overland Expo just outside Bend, Oregon, and the trailers left an impression (keep an eye on Expedition Portal for a comprehensive review of the DoDrop trailer in the coming weeks). Not only do these trailers excel in design and construction, but they also offer a range of features at an affordable price point. The five trailers share very similar DNA but are each slightly different and cater to a variety of needs; for instance, all trailers feature a “Baltic birch interior, high-quality stainless steel fasteners throughout, and a dado-joined floor.”

The Terradrop Alpha

The Terradrop Alpha, known as TDA, is the premium of Oregon Trailer’s offering. It features an innovative alpha coating that promises exceptional exterior durability. Built on a robust yet lightweight 2 x 2 x 0.120-inch square-tube steel frame, the TDA ensures ease of handling with its A-style tongue welded onto a wheeled tongue jack. For off-road adventurers, it boasts a multi-axis off-road coupler package and a 5.2k off-road independent torsion suspension package, providing the stability needed for challenging terrains. With 16-inch, black powder-coated wheels and all-terrain tires, this trailer is ready for the rugged outdoors. It also includes a 7-blade RV-style connector and rear leveling jacks/stabilizer jacks for added convenience.

The Terradrop Alpha’s body maintains the iconic Oregon Trailer original Terradrop profile shape, measuring 60 (w) x 48 (h) x 96 (l) inches, and a custom flat-top fender design enhances its aesthetics. The trailer is constructed with plywood components made from high-end marine-grade birch and solid hardwood cross-members/spars. Rigid foam insulation keeps you comfortable inside, while two 26 x 36-inch standard teardrop doors with tinted glass and screened opening windows provide accessibility and ventilation. High-quality stainless-steel fasteners are used throughout (including exterior fasteners), ensuring longevity. And the dado-joined floor, partitions, and bulkheads add structural integrity. A custom heavy-duty roof rack system provides practicality (with space for a rooftop tent), and a rear 2-inch accessory receiver is included for added versatility.

Inside, the Terradrop Alpha offers a Baltic birch interior with a stylishly designed cabinetry system. Electrical outlets include a 12-volt accessory outlet/plug and a 120-volt AC duplex outlet. The queen-size sleeping area features a high-quality, custom-made foam mattress with a custom cover, and a small overhead storage shelf adds convenience.

The galley is well-equipped with birch storage/shelving complemented by hardwood trim and a Formica countertop. Under-counter storage space ensures you have room for your supplies. A deep-cycle AGM battery, powered by a USA-made Progressive Dynamics power center battery sled, ensures the galley is well-lit with warm white LED dome lights. The galley lid locks securely with a hurricane hinge.

DoDrop Alpha

The DoDrop Alpha (DDA) is Oregon Trailer’s answer to off-road capability in a compact package. Its smaller size, lighter weight, and simplified configuration translate into extraordinary off-road capabilities for adventurers seeking rugged terrain.

The off-road chassis is, as with the other trailers, constructed with a 2 x 2 x .120-inch laser-cut square-tube steel frame featuring an A-style tongue welded onto a wheeled leveling jack. The inclusion of an off-road multi-axis coupler, long-travel off-road suspension with separate compression and rebound springs, and 29-inch diameter off-road wheels and tires elevate its off-road prowess. Industrial-strength powder coating ensures durability, and a 4-pin tow connector simplifies connectivity.

The body of the DDA measures 48 (w) 42 (h) and 84 (l) inches, reflecting its compact yet rugged nature. A unique black exterior alpha coating adds a distinct touch (other color choices are available with deluxe and custom configurations).

Other than the upgraded suspension and exterior coating, the DoDrop Alpha features are similar, if not identical, to those of the DoDrop trailer.
