Motorcycles like the BMW R 1250 GS Ultimate Edition only come around every 100 years or so. This year BMW Motorrad marks a century of building motorcycles and chose the R 1250 GS to carry the banner…in the United Kingdom. Sorry Yanks, this beauty is only for those across the pond. We do get two centennial editions, though, the BMW R 18 100 Years and the R 12 nineT 100 Years. Not exactly the bikes for backcountry exploration, nor is the latter like the modified BMW R nineT we reported in 2022. Instead of those street machines, we’re covering the UK’s beautiful bike. Let the drooling begin.
The BMW Password to Great Parts
BMW’s secret sauce for bringing this bike into such fine form is Option 719. This code is also 100 years old, having been originally used to represent individual product requests. BMW then created special parts as special orders. With this bike and other 2023 special editions, they pay tribute to their historical production process. Motorcyclists can take advantage Option 719 by ordering some or all of the special parts made for this year’s anniversary celebration.
The Oracle Speaks
BMW states, “From exclusive paintwork and a host of milled parts to forged wheels: Option 719 optional equipment combines state-of-the-art technology with traditional craftsmanship and is available for a host of models. Consequently, you can directly create your individual bike ex works. Some of the exclusive and particularly high-quality Option 719 parts can also be purchased later as Original BMW Motorrad Accessories.” The UK’s Ultimate Edition GS bears the company’s coveted HP insignia, indicating high performance.
Ultimate R 1250 GS
This Ultimate Edition R 1250 GS dips heavily into Option 719, but also has its own unique features. The front of the bike shows off an enhanced LED light system to provide excellent illumination on the darkest nights. The new adjustable windscreen is heavily tinted, making the bike look like it’s emerged from the Bat Cave. BMW furthers the Caped Crusader effect in their literature: “This is speed, supremacy and safety in a slick Triple Black Finish, including fierce black crash bars for the most streamlined body language the GS has ever seen.” Who wouldn’t want such a bike? Those without trust funds take heart, an assortment of the exclusive Option 719 parts may be purchased later as BMW Motorrad Accessories. But we do have to ask: what would all those cool parts look like covered in mud?
