These days there’s a website or app for just about anything, and you can now add firewood to that list. Stacked.camp is a new “community-focused project” (website database) that was created to help campers find firewood, quickly and easily. Stacked was specifically built as a “lite-weight” webapp to facilitate quick loading of information, even when your cell phone signal is weak.
Using Stacked is very straightforward; just go to the website, type in the location where you are looking for firewood, and hit enter. Locations selling wood will show up as pins on the map. You can also search by navigating around the Stacked map, making it easier to look at broad areas if you are not sure exactly where will be most convenient for you. Location descriptions include address, type of store, wood location (indoors or outdoors), and whether the wood is bundled or loose.
Because Stacked relies on user-submitted data, adding firewood locations that you find while traveling will help grow the database. Submitting new locations is simple, and it’s an easy way to support a useful tool that is free.
Stacked is currently in its Beta phase of development and looking for testers to provide user feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Editor’s Note: Never assume that it is safe to have a campfire; first check with the local, State, or Federal agency responsible for the land you are using for the most up-to-date fire regulations. Always extinguish all campfires completely when you are done enjoying them and refer to Leave No Trace for guidance on reducing your campfire impacts.
