Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) by Mopar and the talented Dometic team used the opening day of Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona, to pull the cover off an inventive camping solution for the modern Jeep Wrangler owner. The awning and rooftop tent, or ARTT, concept marries an aerodynamic shelter with a 270-degree awning in a single carbon-fiber shell that bolts directly to the roof of the four-door Wrangler, eliminating the bulk and drag of a separate rack. Developed in partnership with mobile-living specialist Dometic and incubated within the Stellantis Star*Up intrapreneurship program, the system is being shown publicly for the first time on the bright “Solar Flash” Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser concept that debuted six weeks earlier at the 2025 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah.
Rooftop tents have long been an overlanding staple, yet their height, weight, and wind resistance still cause concern for drivers who must tackle long highway stretches before reaching the trail. JPP’s engineers addressed those issues by molding the ARTT’s exterior from carbon fiber, keeping mass low while shaping a tapered profile that sits close to the roofline. Because the shell fastens directly to factory mounting points, the Wrangler requires no additional rack hardware, and the center of gravity remains lower than on many comparable setups.
Once parked, owners unlatch the shell and deploy the tent using Dometic’s AIR Frame Inflation technology, which replaces traditional poles with pressurized air beams. The process inflates the fabric structure in minutes, after which the integrated awning swings out in an arc covering 270 degrees of ground around the vehicle. Inside the weather-protected enclosure, campers find space for a queen-size mattress, while an aperture in the tent floor aligns with the Wrangler’s Freedom-Panel openings; removing those panels allows occupants to climb from cabin to bed without stepping outside. A molded carbon-fiber step spans the center console to protect interior trim during entry and exit.
Senior Vice-President and Head of Sales Operations for the Jeep brand Mike Koval said ahead of the Expo’s public opening,
“The lightweight and compact JPP awning and rooftop tent concept is the perfect accessory for adventure-seeking Jeep Wrangler owners, whether they are overlanding across long distances or heading out for a spur-of-the-moment weekend getaway.”
Koval added that the Flagstaff show, long regarded as a proving ground for new expedition gear, will provide valuable feedback as the company weighs commercial viability.
The ARTT prototype crowns the electrified Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser, a build intended to demonstrate how the factory plug-in hybrid powertrain can pair renewable energy with all-terrain prowess. The vehicle stands 2 inches taller than stock thanks to a JPP lift kit, while vented high-top steel fender flares leave room for 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 mud-terrain tires on beadlock-capable wheels. A custom push bar frames a Warn winch, rock rails line the sills, and slim side boxes with MOLLE panels to keep recovery gear and cooking equipment secure yet accessible. A low-profile roof rack accommodates additional cargo when the tent is closed, and its sweeping rails echo the shell’s chamfered edges, maintaining a cohesive silhouette.
Inside, the concept receives two-tone leather seats trimmed to match the exterior color scheme. The instrument-panel mid-bolster, door armrests, and center console lid wear matching leather, and every interior garnish is finished in gloss black for a unified appearance. All-weather floor liners guard against muddy boots, while an instrument-panel accessory rail offers firm anchor points for navigation tablets, radios, or camera mounts.
Although JPP has not confirmed production timelines or pricing, the ARTT illustrates how the Stellantis Star*Up program can accelerate ideas from employee sketchpads to full-scale prototypes in months. Should visitor response at Overland Expo West prove favorable, the company could move quickly to refine the design for the aftermarket, giving Wrangler owners a factory-engineered alternative to heavier, less integrated rooftop tent solutions.
For now, the concept signals Mopar’s intention to remain at the forefront of the booming overland accessories market by combining advanced materials, clever packaging, and brand-specific integration into a single, adventure-ready package that expands the Wrangler’s already broad versatility.
